I'm off work today, not very well so am watching my boys. Percy my 4yr old seemed to be breathing really hard and then couldn't get comfortable. I'm well aware i'm completely paranoid and notice any changes in their breathing and it was hard but not laboured. I watched him for a bit, offered him a treat which he took. Anyway i did a thorough check over and his breathing returned to normal but his anal sack has a creamy white substance in it. Does anyone know what this is? I expected to find poops, there weren't any, a little bit of fur but mainly this smelly, creamy white stuff. Is it just a normal kind of discharge/smegma. Do i need to try and clean it all out? He was squeaking, don't think in pain, prob more just telling me to get off so i don't want to dig about unneccesarily but do want to help him. Thanks

Could it be calcium discharge from too much calcium in his diet?

Its the stuff they use to scent with , my texel boar needs this cleaning out regular its waxy/greasy and stinks . It wont be connected to laboured breathing though

With my Jack suffering from impaction I often find this substance around the mass of poo that I have to remove. And boy, does it smell!

Our 8 month old Alpaca boar has stinky butt, I have cleaned it out twice, no impaction, just the white creamy stuff. I assume this is normal? I just need to clean it out every so often? I'm not sure how far I should go to clean him? Should I use mineral oil too or just turn his anal sack inside out and wipe it?

No need to turn it inside out, you can just clean round the edge & or remove any bedding etc that's in there & yes the white creamy stuff is perfectly normal

i noticed today that peepi has got this white substance occurring now too, but only since we get our second male as his hutch companion. guessing its related to the increased dominant male behavior peepi is doing.

I'm worried about my two piggies. I cleaned their cage last Thursday night before taking them to a friends house as we went out of town. I went to pick them up tuesday night and their cage really didn't have any stool in it. I have been sick and haven't had a chance to check the butts so I checked Max and all I got was this white stuff. I cleaned what I could out. But should I get him to the vet?? I'm going to check my little guy now. Just odd that I really don't see much stool droppings in the cage they both share. The other thing I notice is when I pick Max up he squeeks really loud almost like he is hurting. I'm really worried. Going to call our vet and get them in just to be safe.

I woulkd definitely agree a trip to the vets to be on the safe side. I clean my boys out twice a day and they produce so much poop it makes a right mess. 5 days and no poop must be serious. Let us know how you get on.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I have a question about this topic. My friend has 2 male piggies, 5 months and 3 months. The 5 month old has started to secrete this lovely stuff. My friend would like to know if nuetering him would make a difference. The smell is horrible, as you all know. Lol. I am glad I have girls.
