I just adopted 3 new piggies from my old shelter. They were there for about a week and the lady practically begged us to take all 3 home. Then she went on to say that if we don't want them anymore, to just eat them. WTF? They thought 2 were boys and one a girl, but they are all little chicks. Ones overweight, another is mean and the last likes to be calm and sweet. They used to have shredded pin bedding and now are on newspaper. Two of them I noticed having a bit of sneezing and a tiny amount of cloudy snot. They seem to be doing better now, but I wanted to know if there are any over-th-counter meds I could give them? I don't have $200 to take all 3 to a vet. Please help.

Eat them!!! Thats an awful thing to say They sound like they have a bit of a cold or a respiratory infection. Are they inside? Im not sure if theres anything you can buy over the counter as iv never had to buy anything apart from ivermectin. Im sure someone else on here will be able to help you out. I hope your piggies get well soon

im not sure if theres anything over the counter in the usa either, would the shelter not contribute to the vets bills seeing as you havent had the piggies very long? mind you after what they said to you they probably wont. but it does sound like signs of a respiratory infection, which would need anti-biotics.

One of the piggies noses has cleared up. I've never heard of a regular shelter ever helping with vet bills....

You can use vapour rub a little dab on the nose and also infant cough medicine 0.2mls can help releive the symptoms if it is a cold. However it may not be a cold, it could be a respitory infection which needs antibiotics. I suggest you contact the shelter you got them from and say they were ill when you got them so they should by rights help with the vet bills.

Both piggie noses have cleared up now. I think it was their old bedding of shavings.
