I currently feed my breeding sows and boars science selective pellets (as well as veggies and plenty of hay) but I was wondering what others that breed feed their pigs? I know a lot use mixes or mix their own but I always read that pellets were best. I'm not sure whether to try and swap to a pellet with more protein and oil in maybe, or try a mix?

As long as they are getting plenty of vitamins, minerals, and the proper amount of other nutrients then the pellets they are on should be fine. I'm not an expert on breeding guinea pigs, however. Hay and vegetables help offer the fiber and vitamins they need.

Thanks, there's no doubt that the pellets are providing a balanced diet in terms of vitamins and minerals but I just wondered if they might require more protein, for example, during a pregnancy. Do people feed additional oats or other cereals or include micronized linseed in their diet to ensure they thrive?

Some people like to supplement pregnant and nursing sows with alfalfa hay as it contains more calcium. This is because as the baby pigs grow inside their mother they can leech calcium from her skeleton to make their own tiny bones. Otherwise, a wide variety of fresh veg and a good quality pellet and hay is fine.
