I've just returned from the vet with Storm's sister Sky,when I was feeding tonight I found that she was paralysed in her back legs,I've no idea what has happened as she was fine last night and this morning, the vet examined her and found that she had slight movement in her legs, which was a good sign, as before she had nothing, she's very bright and is eating, so the vet has given her Baytril injection and Metacam,in case it's bacterial,I've to go back on Monday unless she takes a turn for the worst. Anyone any ideas as to what the cause could be and has anyone experienced this before?.

Sky has been on medication for 3 days now,and after I treated her this evening and put her back with the others, she did use both her back legs slightly,so I'm ever hopeful that she will recover.

I had a piggy go paralised after she miscarried her litter I couldn't find osteocare liquid so I got the tablets and crushed one of them in a small amount of water and gave that. After 4 days she was right as rain again Dawn

After what has happened today,I'm feeling optimistic about Sky as instead of dragging her back legs she has started to use them slightly, she goes back to the vets tomorrow I really do need something good to happen, she is so bright I don't want to have her pts,but I will see what the vet says.

My Peter Gurney book said that if your pig is still eating, drinking, pooing, peeing then you should give a Calcium +Vitamin D tablet.

Sky had her check up this afternoon, and I'm really pleased to say that she scooted across the table using her back legs,so I'm sure she is well on the way to recovery, she has to go back and see the vet in ten days, and she finishes the Baytril on Wednesday. I will get some Oestocare tomorrow when I go shopping.

Hey there! The same thing happened to my last guinea pig! It was a very stressful condition. I brought him to the vet gave him the same shoot as they gave your guinea pig. Unfortunally he past away 5 months after the paralysis. I think it was due to a seizure he had because after the paralysis happened I seen him have seizures a lot. Right after the paralysis he took a turn for the worst. He was breathing hard and wouldnt eat but he got through that and got alot better

I'm not sure 1 minute she was fine and running around like crazy and the next day she couldn't walk. It's sad to see her like this.

Good news she started to use her back feet today. She just hobbles so far I'll never let that happen again. Pet shops should give out information when they sell a pet, guess they only care about turning a profit.

Thank you for all the help. Today Daisy was able to run for the first time since she was paralyzed. I wouldn't have been able to help her without this board. My daughter is thankful as well.
