A few weeks back we noticed foley was off squeeking when peeing, we treated it and it was fine. It's pretty much been on and off over the past few weeks. He's gone days and he's fine, then as soon as you think he's ok, he does it again! I enquired at the vets [who are brill with my piggies] and you're looking at a fair amount for an x ray, which I think is the next step if it keeps happening! The problem is we're low on funds this month I don't know whether to keep an eye on him still OR approach the 'rents for a small loan Apart from this pee problem occuring he is his usual self! Happy and chirpy round the cage like normal! What to do, what to do....

it could be a few things, it could be stones, which would show up on x-ray, or it could be infection, or cystitis neither of which would show up. it does sound like it could be a stone,as it goes off then comes back, and i presume stones can move around the bladder,so some days wouldnt cause him a problem. hope he is ok. xx

Do you know if anyone has used Lysium before? Any success stories? The only thing is I'd be afraid to use it if it wasn't kidney stones! But reading the info on the website, they're anti bacterial anyway, so would kill off smaller things like cystitis etc

I've just come across the Eurologist tablets, should I be using those instead of the Lysium?

Well I would try them and see if they work first before trying anything more drastic.

I have been using Lysium for my female Molly since January and they have had no adverse effects on her...whether they are actually helping is a different matter! She had to have an op to remove bladder stones last November, which thankfully was successful due to a pioneering op by my vet- but the vet did warn us that they do tend to recur. In January she started peeing blood and squeaking when she went again so I decided to try the herbal route as it would be a) unfair to continually have her operated on if she is probe to getting stones and b) unfortunately not financially possible anyway. She went for months with no problems so I got in tough with the lady who runs PetHerbs and asked her advise and she suggested changing to the Eurologist tablets, which we did. She started to have symptoms of stones again after being on the Eurologist for a while so we went back to the vets in May and she said that she could feel a suspected large stone which she wouldn't be able to pass on her own and she actually didn't think that she would last much longer, but prescribed anti-biotics to give her constantly to help with infection and to return if we needed more or if she became too uncomfortable. I decided to put her back on the Lysium and to actually only give the anti-biotics as and when she showed symptoms rather than continually. She has the Lysium dissolved in water in a 1ml syringe and we give her 4 or 5 syringes of water after in the hopes that a stone would be flushed through..she is a really good girl and takes it so well - probably because she knows that she gets a treat afterwards. We are now 4 months down the line from the vet saying that she didn't have long to live, though these past few weeks she has had to be on anti-biotics again as there was blood in her urine and was obviously in some discomfort again, I'm sure that what Luvcats says about it being changeable because the stones move around the bladder and some days don't cause a problem then others do is very true. I feel sure that there is a stone there again, maybe she has passed some already and I just haven't seen them...maybe it could pass...I really don't know. I'm not absolutely sure that the Lysium has helped but I do know that it has not caused her any problems at all...and in my opinion if thats the case then I will continue with it, along with the water and anti-biotics as and when necessary.....and some positive thinking and prayers! Hope this has helped somewhat....good luck, I know what you're going through.

Thankyou all for your posts! I feel like such an idiot!! Last week I took Foley and the boys off cabbage, try and vary their veg intake again. And guess what, with in a week of no cabbage, foley has been fine [touch wood]! It must've been constipation, and not a bladder problem. I feel so relieved and so stupid at the same time! haha Just goes to show I always think the worst when a problem occurs! Thanks again everyone, I hope I haven't wasted your time with my worries
