Coco had a hard time, she was carrying 5 but sadly one was dead, coco was in the corner scared and her 3 babies where everywhere apart from by her. I didn't see she had 4 until I removed mum and pups and moved the igloo where another guinea was hiding, cleaned them out and popped her back in to relax with them, this was them this morning

They are tiny. Probably because she had so many right? My first litter is due soon. I think she is only having 1 or 2 though because she is young, small, and it's her first litter. Are you having to supplement them?

They are so tiny. It is because she had so many, right? Are you giving them supplements of milk or is she doing all the feedings? I am expecting our first litter soon by it is a younger pig and her first.litter so I think she is only carrying 1 or 2. Good luck raising those 4 cute pups!!

They are gorgeous. Sorry you lost one. 5 is a large litter for any sow to cope with. Keep a very close eye on the pups for the next week or so to ensure they all feed. Mum only has 2 teats so the stronger ones will feed most. My himi sow had 4 pups and 1 got pushed aside. It took only 2 days for this pup to loose weight and become lethargic. I then stepped in and hand raised him otherwise i would have lost him. Mother nature can be cruel but i choose to step in as i bred the sow so i was responsible for her offspring.
I also give all the pups a little feed for the first few days just to give mum a rest. I then keep a close eye on the weights of the younger ones and feed the smaller ones. I use aptamil first milk and it has worked fantastic for me.
Keep us updated

My two pregnant sows are both around 1.6kg now and still no signs of pups. Its amazing how sows progress and how weight ect can be such a fooling thing. Im hoping my two arent carrying more than 4 pups each. I like the smaller litters!! Kayleigh

I gave them all 0.5mls of milk today, didn't know if that was enough or not, I think I'm gonna go 1 maybe 2 Feds a day to help her, toffee her mate has 5 pups and is coping well,

I have had 2 sows who both had 5 pups and i done the odd feed for the ones who would take it. But other than that they both coped very very well. If you feel one isnt gaining much weight its best to step in early. I fed Turk (the pup i raised) 3 times a day with milk and let him have as much as he wanted. I also mushed up some guinea pig pellets just to encourage him to eat. he loved the mushy food. He was also eating small amounts of veg and his hay as normal which was a great sign.

Awww poor coco. At least shes trying to do her best. Ensure you keep the pups well fed. Im sure the vets have given you all the right advise. They should be nibbling on hay and veg already. Mushing up the pellet food will encourage them to eat that too.

Well we are 3 days old, and all still here, have noticed they are starting to munch on dried grass and hay and gerty guinea pig, so I'm hoping this is all good signs

Ahh thats a great sign. Although i must say gerty isnt a great guinea pig food. Many people have found once the pigs eat gerty theres no going back to anything else. can cause picky piggies. Not keen on the fact it has additives ect in it either.
Hows the sow doing?
