Poppet just doesn't seem to be able to get over her uri. She had a six day course of baytril followed by a 48hr rest where she got worse again. She's just had dose 10 of a 14 day course but she's still sneezy with a dirty nose, she's eating drinking peeing pooping wheeking and popcorning so all the things a little piggy should be doing but I can't get her better. Is there anything else I can do while she finishes her baytril, like any super good foods or anything. If she's not better by the end of this treatment the vet wants to sedate her and run all kinds of tests and I really don't want to put such a young pig through that stress! Any and all suggestions are most welcome.

Also is there a chance it could be allergies and not a uri at all?? Shes on fleece/towel bedding but I guess she could be allergic to my washing powder? I give her meadow hay, should I try a different sort to see if it could be a hay allergy-is that even possible?

What breed is she? Does it clear up on the baytril? When giving the baytril did the vet give you a pro biotic?
Sounds to me like it could well be an allergy. You could try offering a different hay, timothy or someone told me their pig wasnt allergic go thr burgess hay you get. That might be worth a shot.
Is she keeping / gaining weight ok?

I think she's a swiss, she gained alittle weight but I think she may be a bit small. The vet didn't mention giving a probiotic. On the first course of baytril she did make an improvement but the second course doesn't seem to be doing anything. Could it be that she had a uri and allergies so the baytril cleared the uri which is why she seems a little better but then the allergy is lingering?

Ok so I'm on my way to get new washing powder and hay. Would it be better to get a completely different type of hay, ie not meadow or just a different brand of meadow hay?

Try a different hay if you can. Might make no difference.
When a pigs on baytril they need a probiotic. You can use a plain pro biotic yoghurt from the supermarket.

Ok thanks I'll try that to. Do I give that to her in a syringe? Every time I give the baytril or just after the course? How much should I give her?

When my sisters guinea pig needed a pro biotic we used those little bottles of yakult. I can't remember how much she gave him...she just used a small syringe. He enjoyed it, probably because his baytril didn't taste nice! The antibiotic can disrupt the gut flora and so the pro biotic replenished it and kept the gut healthy. We fed him it maybe 10 mins after his antibiotic.

Yakult is good or normal dairy pro biotic yoghurt. Dont worry about the dairy thing, you only feed to replace the good bacteria. Give a small syringe full after every baytril dose.
Pigs usually love it so gobble it up.
