Hmm it could be buddies friend has pulled out a bit of his hair, Buddy has scratched it or possibly the start of a fungal. A couple of members on this forum are very good with noticing problems like fungal etc. So probably best to wait until they take a look at it.
Is the skin dry where the hair has come out?

Thank you so much! It doesn't look dry at all. Just a red line and almost a square shape spot of no hair. I'm slightly freaked out. Lol. Our first guinea pig crisis.
I posted it to the Facebook page and got some tips thee also. You guys are awesome!

Could be an innocent scratch. Could also be fungal. Only time will tell.

Thanks Kayleigh!
They said the same, either a scratch or fungal and watch it for a bit. They also told me what I could buy over the counter. Just having that at home now makes me feel better. I've definitely gotten attached to these guys and want to make sure I do my best for them!

Well it still looked bad today. Looks like he may have scratched the area also. I used the cream I was told about and we will see what happens tomorrow. I found a local vet that I can go to if this continues. Trying not to worry too much yet. But it's so hard! He's acting normal even more energetic and comfortable than before. s57.photobucket.com/user/kacie0518/media/image-4.jpg.html

With fungal they usually act like their normal selves just a bit more scratchy etc. Let us know how you get on with the cream, I hope he gets better soon!!

Been using the cream on Buddy twice a day since we noticed the issue. It seemed to be getting better but he must have scratched it today because its bleeding now I also found a spot behind his ear where the hair appears to have fallen out. No sore but no hair.. I'm also noticing both boys scratching more than normal.. Or maybe I'm just watching for it more lol Did some research and I'm going to call two area vets tomorrow and hopefully take both boys in. I don't want to wait for it to get worse. Wish us luck!

If the hair has fallen out and left a patcb its likely its ringworm spreading.
Let us know what the cet says.

Sorry this may be a silly question but are you aware that Guinas have a bald patch behind each ear? Just to make sure it is not that. Also yes taking them to a vet will be a good idea to find out what it is and put your mind at ease. Let us know how you get on

I was not aware of that! Lol. I hadn't noticed this area before but I also wasn't looking. I'm still going to bring them in I think. I've been obsessing about it for days. Time to just find out what's going on!

Oh good, I was worried you would have thought I was being rude mentioning it. When you do go to the vets ask about a treatment for mites if they haven't already been treated as this could also be the problem why they are itching as well as fungal that would be what I would do. Good luck at the vets let us know how you get on

I'm so confused!! I made an appointment with the vet for later this week. I couldn't believe how much they wanted to charge for the visit (3 times what I paid for Buddy!), but I made the appointment anyway. Well, when I came home from work tonight, he looks so much better! I looked him all over and no other spots. I guess I'll keep the appointment and just watch for now. Here's a picture from today s57.photobucket.com/user/kacie0518/media/image-5.jpg.htmlLooks like hair is growing back even! How does that happen in one day! These guys sure have me baffled!!

That is why I usually only take my Guineas to the vet if I have tried everything I can think of or have no idea what the problem is, vets charge a hell of a lot these days and to be honest not all of us can afford such prices. If you feel happy keeping the appointment then by all means do as it will put your mind at ease but me personally would have canceled and bought a spot on treatment for mites to see if that is the issue with the itching, or a lice shampoo. Let us know either way how you get on and what the vet has to say if you choose to go.

I too will only go to the vets if i really need too. If i need antibiotics i will phone around my cavy friends to see if they have any spare. If not ill phond the vets and telk them what i require. This way i get s 5 min appointment and the vet prescribes what i require and it costs me only for the medication.
If hes getting better and it does look that way, i too would cancel the appointment.

Well.. I will be canceling the appointment as I think I figured out what caused the problem. It appears that Riley is responsible for Buddy's hair loss.. I caught Riley chewing on Buddy's hair today. Right in the spots I've noticed the hair loss. Maybe it's his way of getting back at Buddy for rumbling at him so much! I don't know how to stop it though. I'm hoping he just stops on his own. Any advice?

If Buddy does not seem to be being hurt etc. Then it is just harmless grooming (Well to them not to you as you have to look at a patchy cavie ) And if Riley is getting his own back there is not much you can do but keep an eye on them and make sure it doesn't escalate to blood. If you start removing them from each other and placing in different places then putting them back in it will only get worse so just keep an eye on them and once they have settled down it should stop or be very rarely when they do things like that. All of that is usually linked with wanting to be dominate so once the dominance has calmed down they should hopefully to.
