We have a twelve year old collie, a cat who moved in last Christmas, three hamsters and two rabbits, you would think that was enough! But each time we popped into the big chain pet store to buy timothy hay my three year old daughter would go straight to the guinea pigs.
What is another animal? I thought, and so we went to choose a guinea pig. We then found out that we should get two, so Patch, so named for his patchwork coat and Murphy a black and tan with two rosettes came home with us.
Well I fell in love with them and decided I wanted a couple of my own.
After a trip around the internet looking at breeds and getting in touch with a breeder via the Scottish Cavy Club I made a trip to Stirling and brought home Maple and Pecan my beautiful dark eyed cream boys.
Now my older daughter and I have decided we wish to start having ago at showing, so my husband is building us a shed to house our chaps and we are heading to a few shows to chat to breeders. I think I will stay with the creams as it is definately love, but I do like the rex and the swiss too.

Here goes... About 2 years ago my mum decieded to get me and my little brother a pet I instantly wanted a piggie as my friend had 2 and I knew how lovely they were. So we went 2 the pet shop and I fell in love with a adorable little girl. Me and my brother got 2 little girls. Unfortunatly mine died wen she was only 2 and the other was left on her own so we decided 2 get 1 more piggie although we ended up with 2 more so we now have 2 baby pigs and 1 older pig. I love them all 2 bits. And that's my story

quick story? okay, wanted to get a family pet for my kids but not able to get a dog at the time, researched and found guinea pigs were great to have, also read that better in pairs, so got 2, which soon turned to 3, 4, then 5...started having allergic reaction to something, thought it was the piggies (all were girls here) went to doc, doc said get rid of them...so found them a new home, but no idea what happened to them as new owner did not stay in touch. A year goes by, visit the piggies in pet stores and am able to hold them, etc...hmmm...found out not allergic to gps, allergic to the hay dust, probably combo with the carefresh? YIPPEE! Brought home 2 girls in February, not even a month later brought home another girl, then in August rescued 1...then in October saw this cute little boy on kijiji and had been reading up on things and decided to see if we could have some babies...have now separated the boy from the girls, he's in a cage on top of theirs and seems to be okay so far...now on pregnancy watch. Weighing the girls wheekly (heehee, on the spelling)

my obsession started late, growing up we had rabbits, it wasn't until about 10 years ago that i started having cavies. my first one was a boar, named nibs but i changed his name to riley. he was a gift from a friend and was full grown, he was with me for 4 years then passed away ): then i started adding more some from the pet shop, others i rescued from families that had grown bored of them. i had a lot of them, 8 in total 4 males and 4 females. then i started breeding them, i only bred 2 times, and the pups were healthy, i sold them to a local pet shop. and unfortunately most of my cavies passed away, to this day i don't know what they died of, my local vet was too expensive, and i really don't think he was that good. they had their checkups, and everything seemed fine, then late at night they passed away ): then 4 years ago i moved 4 hours away to be closer to my family, at that point i only had 1 cavy. I unfortunately had to rehome her as money was very tight, and i couldn't afford to keep her. But now money is better and i'm happy to be getting my 2 girls very soon, i've already picked them out from a member on here and have named them kiera and zara

I became very ill at the age of 8 and unsure if I would make it my parents finally allowed me to get a pet. We went into the pet store once I was almost fully recovered and we got Fluffy and Fluffball my first piggies. Then Fluffball was pregnant and two more came along, Bubble and Squeak so we had 4females and that is where my love started. They helped me through the illness and everything else going on. I now only gat piggies from rescue centres as I personally disagree with pet stores selling them (: I am fully recovered now by the way!
