This time tomorrow Xanxan will be going in for his alteration. I'm a little nervous and I'm sure I'll be worse tomorrow but for now at least I'm content that we're doing the right thing for the happiness of both Xander and Hilda. Eeeeep! Thank you all for your great advice on this and for sharing your opinions and experiences with me. It's been great in helping me and Maria come to our decision and in making us aware of the risks involved as well as the potential benefits. I have all my fingers and toes crossed that our little guy is going to be okay. He's in the hands of a great vet and I have every faith that it's all going to go well. Best of luck, my little Xanxan! I'll keep ye updated!

Oh i understand your anxieties Orlaith...have been through this with my two bunnies in the last year and was especially worried about Poppy as spaying is more invasive but everything worked out great. Henry did so well he didnt even have a follow up appointment. And as you said Xander will be in great hands ... I have every faith in all the staff at the Blackrock vet clinic Good luck Xander....We will all be thinking of you little man xx

Xander is home from the vet now He went in for his op yesterday and they kept him overnight since his operation wasn't done until late and he was still very groggy at 6pm last night. So me and Luna went to get him today and I'm so happy and relieved to have him home! He was really bright in the car and now that he's home he's a little sleepy again, but he's up taking little drinks and little bites to eat, as well as hip-swaying at Hilda and snuffling her nose through the grids of his hospital cage. We're going to keep a really close eye on him for the next while but I really hope that he's going to be okay and not too mad at us

Okay, after scaring us for a bit, Xander now seems to be in full pooping mode, phew! He wasn't eating all that much or pooping a lot for the first day but we woke up this morning and he had demolished all the food in his cage and here were poops everywhere. I've never been so happy for him to make a mess of the place before! He's still in his little 2x2 hospital cage and he seems a little down being away from Hilda but he's eating and drinking away now so fingers crossed he'll be back to himself in no time

He managed a little popcorn this morning. It was only small but I was so happy to see his little legs off the ground He's improving every day, getting brighter and more back to himself. He's rumbling at Hilda through the bars so maybe he doesn't realise what has happened He's still a bit quiet but he's getting better. His wound is looking nice and clean and we're bringing him back this Saturday just to make sure everything is as it should be.

I was saying to Luna earlier that Xander's wound looks a bit funny. It nearly looks like he has popped the scab on it or something. Maybe it's the surgical glue coming off? He has no pain in the area at all (he let us touch it [with disinfected fingers!] no problem), it's not bleeding or weeping and there hasn't been any sign of that in his bedding - we've been checking several times a day - and it doesn't look infected (but then what do I know?) so hopefully it's just the way that it's healing. He has an appointment for first thing in the morning at the vet so it'll get checked out then. I really hope he's okay and it's just the way it's healing up! He's been eating, drinking, pooping and behaving normally, popcorning away, so I doubt it's causing him any discomfort.

Xander got on really well at the vet. His two tiny little wounds are practically healed. The big one that I said looked a bit dodgy, Eamonn reckons he was at it, which is why it scabbed like that. He also thought the scab was stopping it from healing properly so he took it off and cleaned it and gave us a gel to put on it three times a day. That will stop it scabbing and let it heal quicker. He also gave Xanxan a little baytril injection to make sure no infection sets in. But Eamonn is really happy with him so fingers crossed our little dude is fine! Honestly, you'd never know he'd had anything done to him, he's totally back to his cheeky little self

Wonderful news, am glad all went well & he's doing fine How long did Eamonn say before he can join Hilda? I ask as the time scale differs greatly between vets, i was told 6wks yet my friend was told 3wks.

Well Hilda is already pregnant so we didn't have that issue. We kept them separate for a week to let Xander rest up and then put them back together as they were lonely.
To be honest, though, Hilda is due to give birth before Xander's six weeks are up and we're going to separate them before the birth as I don't want to take the risk. I would wait the six weeks in case, even if the vet said three. You can't take it back once it's done!

Thanks for the good wishes everyone It's only been two days since we started putting that ointment on our little Xanman and it's looking way better already. It's improving between each application! He's being really good and not complaining about having to show us his belly. His fur is growing back really quickly too
