Hello! I need help!! This started back in January. I noticed my G.P has a discharge from her Right nostril. I brought her to the vet. He said that she's got an infection a gave me Bactrim for 10 days. It did not work at all. She was eating ok , her stool was ok. Then I went to a different exotic vet. They made the X-ray a the Vet said that she's got some mucus in her Right lung. Prescribed me Baytrill for 10 days. It did not help, she was losing weight and hiding in her little house inside the cage all the time. Then the same vet priscribed her Baytrill and another medicin(I forgot wihch one) together for 3 weeks twice dayly. She started to feel better : was very active and playfull, sneezing much less and less discharge. But after a couple month she was hiding and staying in her little house again, sneezing a lot and having a lot of discharge. I went to a different vet (the best in cincinnati like they said) for exotics: He prescribed the Ciprofloxacin 0.2 every 12hrs for 10 day. It is now the 4th day and she is feeling MUCH worse!! The same symptoms got worse PLUS she is hardly breathing, hiccuping and has a cracking sound! I looked online on www.guinealynx.info and I even did not find this kind of medicine for G.P. I called the vet-he is out of town and nobody can help!!! What should I do? I cry all the day long I don' t know what medicine can help her..... ?

From what I am reading on the internet it is safe for Guinea Pigs but isusually used as ear drops for ear infections It sounds like your piggy has a URI. I would try going back to your vet and asking for Bactrim also known as Setra or Tribrissen. Oral Dosage 30mg/kg given every 12 hours.
