I need some advice. My most favorite sow turned up very ill looking this evening. She was completely well and chipper this morning but when I went to give evening veggies, she was hunched and all puffed up. Her tummy looks swollen also. I did abruptly wean her babies this morning. They are 6 weeks old and she was still nursing so decided to seperate her two daughters, could this have some effect on her i.e. backed up milk possibly ? She would not eat her veggies but is nibbling hay. Is there anything I can give her for possible bloat? I was so looking forward to retiring her and giving her a spoiled pet life and now this

piggies go downhill very quickly, and its not a good sign that she doesnt want to eat, personally i would take her to a good vet as soon as possible. baby boys need to be taken out at around 3 weeks,so i wouldnt expect them to still be nursing at 6 weeks,or at least not a whole lot, they should be mostly on solid foods, i suppose as pet stores sell them often at 6 weeks they are fine to be taken away from mum before then. so i dont think thats the problem. i dont have any other advice, except vets im afraid. i hope she is ok. xx

I would say she could be bloated, has she had cabbage, brocolli, cauli leaves that sort of thing. For this I use buscopan its amazing stuff quarter a tablet and give her a quarter every 4 hours until she shows signs of improvement. I often find it only take one tablet. Hopefully this will work

Thanks so much for your replies, she is looking much better this morning. When I looked in she was eating her pellets.. YA!! I started her on some bactrim last night. A couple of times the past few weeks Ive heard her cough or wheeze at different times but then would abruptly stop and she would seem fine, im guessing maybe she is fighting off something or other. Her bloat seems to be gone & she is not puffy looking anymore- so this is very good!!
