My girls live in groups and ive just taken 2 of them out with uri and put them in a quarentine cage but im so worried im going to lose the whole group of 8, what are the chances of them all having it?

I don't think there's a high risk of them all catching it but i'm no vet. One of my boys had pneumonia last year but his cage-mate had no symptoms nor did any of my other pigs. I have had pigs with URI's in the past & never have cage-mates or others caught it. I do know someone who has a herd of 9 piggies & 2 did have URI's together, 1 is now better the other is still on antibiotics. I would think it'd be dependant on their immune systems but i'm sure your vet would be able to give a more defined answer. I wish your girls a speedy recovery

thankyou, im hoping its no more than the 2, im keeping a very close eye on them and so far the others look ok, im at the vet first thing tomorrow morning.

We have had guineapigs with URI's and they haven't passed it on to their cage mates. Just keep an eye on all your piggies as chest infections are usually quite curable with antibiotics.

Thanks delukem, im off to the vet today and at the moment there are still no signs of the others having it.

Back from the vet and both have had long acting antibiotics and anti inflammatory jabs , if there is no improvement by Thursday they have to go back but Tamsin the vet was very hopefull they should recover ok.

The girls are soooooo much better today they were even squabbling over a piece of cucumber this morning!
