Hey folks, need help fast.
My sister's guinea pig is staying with us for a few weeks. It looks like it won't make it to sunset let alone through the night.
I used to own pigs, and this is what it seems to like right before they kick it.
Anyhoo, the pig hasn't been eating or drinking much since it got here. There is hardly any water gone out of the first bottle (this has been over a week).
Pig came out of the pigloo today. I figured it came out to die, so I opened the cage and was petting it. Not long it laid down on it's side. I figured this was just about it. So I turned on the fan, and the TV in the room as a source of coolness and talk and I just kept petting it.
I put some food in front of its mouth to see if it would eat. It didn't, but it stood up. Since then it's been on it's feet and on it's side over and over again.
Last time I left the pig alone it looked like it was seeing things. It would jerk from time to time, and eventually it got scared and ran back into the pigloo. Was on its feet last time I saw it, was still jerking.
Any tips? Going to the vet is not an option. If this is the end I want to know what I can do to make it the most comfortable for the pig, and maybe some of these symptoms lead up to a cause you folks might know about.
Looks to me like it's preparing itself for death, and I want to let it run it's course. Just so it's happy and comfortable.

i have no advice other than to take it to the vets, it may not be dieing and it may have something that the vets can easily treat. if it hasnt been eating or drinking much for a week then it will need rehydrating and syringe feeding. the vets will show you how to do this.

They can't survive long at all without eating. The jerking is what my Travis did when he'd been poisoned but he had terrible diarrhoea too. I agree, i would always take it to a vet if there's still hope. You can try syringe feeding it yourself, that's about the only thing you can do if you won't see a vet. I would mash up some soft veggies like cucumber, tomato in water with a food mixer. I tried veg baby food with Parsley but it was so far removed from what is natural to them that he couldn't take it. I hope it gets better.
