My sisters gpig was coughing and foaming at the mouth and nose. It just started today he seemed perfectly fine yesterday. We thought he was choking so my sister and mom took him to the Emergency Vet right away. They've had him on oxygen for hours, and they finally came in and told them that he has a URI...? I personally have never heard of a guinea pig foaming at the mouth because of a URI, I own rats & rabbits and have never had that happen with them either. Has anyone ever heard of a URI causing a gpig to foam at the mouth and nose? We want a second opinion, but we don't know if he'll make it overnight and there are no other emergency vets in our area. For now they are keeping him and weaning him off oxygen to see if he'll do okay, and we're supposed to pick him up in a couple hours. ~edit~ He looks like he's having seizures now. I do not believe this is a URI. At this point should we wait to take him to his regular vet tomorrow when they open or consider having him put to sleep now? He's whimpering and seems to be in pain, but is there something the regular vet can do for him? He's passed on Rest in peace Icarus

I am so sorry for your loss. The foam from the mouth and nose made me think of fluid filled lungs or possibly congestive heart fail which can cause froth as well, but its usually pink tinged.
