Hi, my guinea pig's name is Sparkle. She is pregnant at the moment. She's having at least two babies, I've felt a kick on one side and at the same time, a kick on the other side. She's very protective over her belly, yet I see amazing movement. Here is her: And here is a picture of her pregnancy: Oh yes, she is laying down but her front half isnt big like that, it's skinny when she stretches out but not too skinny. But that is her normal belly size. I've never experienced a litter, but I've researched a lot. Any advice welcome! I have a couple questions, should I feed Sparkle more after her delivery? Like veggies? Just for a while until the babies are weaned? And, who's had a litter of 3 or 4 before because I would love to see a picture of the pregnant pig and compare it to Sparkle. I've seen many pictures looking exactly like her saying they delivered 3 or 4. What do you think? Kira

Here are a few snaps of my pigs that have had litters of four. Just ensure that your sow has unlimited hay and plenty of fresh veggies. She does look large, but you won't really know until she delivers (it could be four, it could be two larger pups, etc.)

Alright, yes she already has unlimited hay and a little salad of veggies once a day. The cage is already baby-proofed. I found that I've had her for 8 weeks now. Will the babies need alfalfa hay? Like when they're growing up?

You can give them alfalfa if you want, but i don't really think it's necessary if you give them a balanced diet. It'll do no harm either way, even if you just want to give it to them as a treat along with their normal hay. So, if you give it to them they'll happily munch on it, but if they don't get any they'll be just fine

Okay, good. Some other websites say you have to and some say you don't have to... I like this forum a lot, though. Oh yeah, I've confirmed Sparkle has at least 3 babies in her. So are her pelvis bones on each side of her at the end of the spine? Im confused with it, but if I'm right, then I think it's beginning to open. She has been stopping and making hiccuping motions. I've seen her twice now since late last night and I do still go to school. Is that normal?

Yep if you run your fingers down her spine and feel where her tail would be, that is where her pelvic bones are. They can open and close in the days coming up to birth, so there's no surefire way to know the babies are coming.
As for the hiccupping, is she still doing it? Piggies can sometimes get heaving hiccups, which can look a little like they're trying to get sick, but it's nothing to worry about and will pass.

She's stopped her hiccuping. It's so cute feeling the babies! Haha, I guess I'm just really excited.

Now, her nipples are kind of plump. Her pelvis bones are still closed but it looks like she's producing milk. How long until she gives birth when she starts this?

I guess it could be anytime now. Unfortunately it's pretty impossible to predict when a sow will have her litter. She'll hold onto them until she's good and ready.

Okay, I'm just super excited. She's gonna pop at anytime now. I've seen the baby's body completely, it's so cool but so painful to wait all this time!! Haha, I'll post pictures when she delivers.

I've got an update. Her pelvis bones are separated at the moment!! She's so bossy and snappy whenever it comes to petting around her belly! Haha, she's so adorable. I just got some new beds for them for the babies and Sparkle to rest on.

Also, how often do pregnant guinea pigs have unfortunate litters? Sparkle's been a mother to 2 before so I'm pretty sure she'll do well with these 3, most likely 3, babies. I'm so excited, is it normal to be this excited?!?

Mother nature can be strange. I had a sow litter fine but on her second litter she got into trouble and i had to help out. Sadly loosing the pups but thankfully the sow recovered.
You just need to be prepared that things can and do go wrong. Fingers crossed all goes well though.
Keep us posted

Okay, I'm fitting one finger in between one side of her pelvis bone but then the other one is together and then I can shift them so it'll be the other way around. But with my other pig's bones, everything is tight. Does this mean Sparkle's pelvis bones are open?

To my surprise, she had one perfectly healthy adorable baby and a really big baby that died during labor. The one baby is probably a female, I'll post pictures later, I'm in a hurry right now.
