Hello,
Last year I rescued 3 guinea pigs. One male and two female. They were all very malnourished and skinny, and the girls both pregnant. I knew nothing about guinea pigs when they came in my care.
With the help of the wonderful people in this forum, the girls both delivered healthy babies November 16 2011. Daisy had 2 girls and a boy and Clover had one of each.
With the cost and risk of neutering a male guinea I decided to instead keep one of the male babies as a companion for Donald. (He was/is a really good dad).
6 weeks ago I needed to send them to a pet sitter for the night as I live in an appartment and they were doing bedbug preventative preatment. The sitter was horrible and even went as far as cutting thier hair! (the boys had beautiful long hair. The girls hair matted easier so I kept their hair shorter. I had just bathed and groomed them two days before going to the sitter). Though I stressed to her the importance of keeping them apart, I believe that when she groomed them and washed their bedding (I use the fleece method) she put them together as I believe Daisy is pregnant.
I am wondering if being so far between if there are risks with this pregnancy (She had multiple litters before I got her that they ate, I dont know how many), she is at least two years old possibly older.
Also, since they were so malnourished when I got them, Daisy gained some extra weight and though I cut back on the food I offer her, she is still a chubby piggy. What complications could that cause?
Thanks in advance (again) for all your help!
