In my previous post about Scarlet's pups, I mentioned that only one pup survived and that Mum wasn't paying it any attention. Thumeblina, as she has been called my the family, is being handreared by us. I am so thankful that I previously experienced handrearing a pup with Asher, because I find that skinnies are more difficult. Having the knowledge and previous experience, I am finding that raising Thumbelina is not as difficult. She is on a set schedule. She sleeps, wakes up for food, sleeps, etc. etc. It is really interesting to see her feeding schedule. Because she is a skinny pig, she must eat and drink more than haired pigs to regulate her body temperature. Thumbelina is waking every 1.5 to 2 hours to eat, and she is eating a good amount of the mixed vegetable baby food. She is also drinking plenty of water so as to not get dehydrated. We're going on three days old, now, and we continue to see improvement. She is super fiesty when she's up and moving! Keep good thoughts coming her way, as this can be a difficult time for her (and there is always the chance that she won't make it, too). We have high expectations and are glad to see she's doing well. Also, she is super spoiled. After feeding, she wants to be wrapped in her baby sock (large enough so that she can get out if she wants) and "put in bed". She has a special blanket/stuffed animal combination that makes her feel safe, and she won't sleep until we lay her down. Here's a picture of Miss Spoiled.

Unfortunately, she passed Tuesday evening. We think that the litter may have been a bit premature due to whatever trauma caused the Mum's bleeding incident a few days prior to delivery. She was a fighter until the end, and she died all comfy and warm in my hands.
