So since losing my dear Chipotle, her dear friend Machete has been depressed & refusing to eat. I kept trying to feed her everything I could find, she didn't even want her Vitamin C treats that she usually LOVES. She would eat her lettuce & hay, but no kibble or anything else. I tried apples, oranges, bananas, carrots, tomatoes...everything. Then this morning I went to the grocery store & got some kale, along with some kale since I figured the kale was so close to lettuce that she'd probably go for it. When I came home, I put in the carrots..a piece of green pepper & a carrot, but nothing.. I was very very discouraged & sad..
I left to go to my parents house & when I came home she was at the front of the cage making her "I'm hungry!" squeaks that I know very well, so I went for the vitamin c treat cause that's always her favorite. She was a little hesitant but after I held it still for a few seconds, she took it from me. I could have screamed I was so happy. Then, about five minutes later, I got her to eat a carrot, and she's slowly getting into her kibble..it's such a good feeling! Lets hope she keeps it up. This makes me really see that it's all from her missing her Chipotle.

I'm still having a little trouble with her, I dont know if this is something that's been going on for a while because now I'm wondering if it was Chippy that ate all the good stuff. She's loving all the greens, parsley, kale, lettuce, mint. She's taking some of the carrots but she STILL wont take the other good stuff. No peppers, broccoli, oranges, apples, kiwi, banana...I just dont get it! Anyone out there have some finicky guineas?

My little ones will eat almost anything, but Vincent, like an old man, doesn't like change, he'd much rather stick with carrots and broccoli rather than try something new. The only way I get him to try new food is to give it to all my others but not him, he then goes over to see what he's missing and try it out. But he's still very picky and will always go back to his favourites if he has to choose between something new or carrots!

Well I'm glad to hear Machete isn't the only picky one! I miss Chipotle because she would eat ANYTHING. She'd come grab it out of my hand gladly, sometimes before even realizing what it was I think. She loved the sweet stuff, I feel like Machete WANTS to, she comes to it, looks at it, starts to taste it, then turns her head. I know she might still be getting used to the solo cage & missing Chippy, but I think she's okay with the amount of lettuce & other greens she gets. I keep watching to see if she's digging through the pellets but I have yet to see her really go for it.

If she's looking round, maybe she's looking for chipotle for reassurance or for her to eat the food first. As long as she's putting on weight and actually eating then she should be alright =) Just keep an eye on her, as you are =)

Alice I know it is because Chippy isn't around, she was with her for four years I'm sure she's missing her just as much as I am. Tonight I thought that maybe that reassurance was something she needed from me now, so I took her out for a little on my lap & made up a little plate of different things for me to try & feed her so I could figure out exactly what she wanted. So I had a carrot, a piece of green pepper & parsley. As I expected she immediately went for the greens because she's always loved those, and I didn't have to do anything. But then I just kept petting her, and I put a tomato (she used to love them) in front of her & as I had assumed, as I kept petting her she reached out and began eating it! Then tonight after I put her back in her cage, she went for it on her own. When I looked back about fifteen minutes later, she was in the food bowl with the pellets I leave in there all the time, and that's the first time I've seen that since Chipotle left us. It's slow. I'm going to be getting another one soon for her, I know she needs a cagemate & I think getting another will help me a little as I'm still dealing with losing Chip.

It's great that you're getting her to eat. Some piggies can be really fussy about their food but if you try a few times they'll usually give in. Hope you're doing okay.

That's great news =) I'm sure everything will be alright, I rekon she'll soon perk up when she has a cage mate to talk to when you're not around =)
