I am taking Terra to the vet this afternoon. He is coughing and sneezing again and sounds very congested. I will let you know what the vet says. Will update soon.

Terra has a URI. She put him on baytril for 10 days The thing is I'm having a hard time giving him his meds. We tried wrapping him in a towel but he wiggles out. Anyone have any suggestions.

He should only be on 0.5 ml is that right? If so then giving them quickly and without fuss is the best way. Sit him on your lap, hold his head and put the syringe into the side of his mouth (near the back) then just give him his dose. He should naturally just swalllow and voila its done in seconds.
I have had a few pigs who didnt like their meds, but needs must!
Hope he recovers quickly.

I got the medicine in Terra. Thank you for all your help. He is on day 2 of antibiotic and seems to be doing ok. The last time he was on antibiotics they really killed his appetite. Keeping a close eye on that, So far so good. Will keep you updated.

I would strongly advise feeding a pro biotic as baytril will upset his digest tract and appetite. If you ask the vet they should give you a weeks worth of sachets.
Glad hes doing better though.

When my sisters pig was on baytril the vet advised using a pro biotic like actimel that she bought from the supermarket and syringe fed him a little each day! Think he rather enjoyed it!

Day 4. So far so good. He ate almost all his pellets today. So no decrease in appetite. The acidophillus seems to be helping .

Terra is almost done with the baytril. He is doing better but is starting to have soft stool. Not diarreah but the consistency of play dough. Should I keep him on the acidophillus longer?

Yes i always keep my pigs on a probiotic for a week or so after antibiotics to restore the bacteria balance.
Plenty of grasses/hay should help restore balance.

If there are any particularly watery veg in his diet (e.g. cucumber, lettuce) then I would also ease off on them until he's 100%
