Hi, My little baby boar Ned is 19 days old and weighs 285g. He has been making the usual little boy rumbling sounds since he was a few days old but on friday (17 days old) i noticed he was really rumble strutting and chasing his mum jigs. I think jigs had come into season. I have seen young baby boars behave like this before at around 3-4 weeks but what has worried me with Ned is that twice jigs stopped running from him and allowed him to mount her...and he really knew what he was doing!! When would you recommend i separate him? I was planning on doing it when he was nearer 4 weeks old as usual but now i am worried! I haven't seen him chasing his sister yet or the other 2 adult sows he lives with. Is he still too young to leave mum? I am planning on putting him with my adult boar Ron so he won't be lonely. I would have thought he was too young to actually make babies but as his mum was pregnant to her brother when i took her in and she was very young and only 328g you can see why i am so worried!!

Iv removed very amerous boars at 19 days. I try to leave them until at least 21 days old.
Keep an eye on his behaviour. He should be fine with the uncle boar Sent from my GT-I9300 using proboards

Thanks Kayleigh. I will keep an eye on him until he is 3 weeks old then might introduce him to Ron. Any tips to make it go smoothly?

Iv always just popped the youngsters in with the chosen uncle pig. A little chasing and rumbling then the older pig realised its a baby and stops.
Just watch for a little whilexas not all older boars take go pups. Most are fab though Sent from my GT-I9300 using proboards

Well i have introduced Ned to Ron and it seems to be going well so far. Quite a bit of rumbling and a little chasing but i have put lots of readi grass in the hutch (Ron's favourite) and they are both sat munching on it. I am watching them closely though. It's been handy having recently moved my hutch block onto the patio as i can look out the window and check on them all the time!
