Our adopted sow surprised us with a beautiful litter of three. We're keeping the two girls, but want to rehome the boy so there are no more surprises. Anyway, I know you separate them at three weeks, but when do you let them go home? I'd like the crying for mom to have stopped and to be sure he has good weight on him so that the transition will go as smoothly as possible, but I want him to start bonding to his new family soon, too. I know there is a perfect window with puppies, but not sure about guinea pigs? The piggy we got from a breeder was five weeks old when we got her. Is that a good age? What do you recommend?

Oh, I don't know enough to make a guess at this one. Except that if he is lonely it might be better for him to go to a good new family earlier rather than later or being lonely will be more detrimental as he will not eat & exercise & communicate as much etc.

Here in the uk we rehome pups from 6 weeks, sometimes 8 weeks.
It depends on each pup.
I personally rehome from 6 weeks. I like the boars to settle after being removed from their mum. I like to make sure they are eating well and gaining weight. To cause the least stress also.
If rehoming a single boar to a home with another single older boar, the new owner usually allows me to look after/bond the two and once the youngest reaches 6 weeks the new owner takes both away.
Its your decision and i know folk across seas rehome before 6 weeks ...
