Good Evening Everyone I thought I would create a quick post about Pru my silver agouti rex sow who is in the later stages of pregnancy. She was bred to my cinnamon agouti rex boar, so im hoping for some lovely babies. It will be 10 weeks on Saturday since she was paired so she could have pups any day now, or it could be two weeks away. I can feel strong movement inside and everyone seems very happy. I will try to get a new snap of her tomorrow, This is Pru a couple of weeks ago This is FB the father of the hopeful litter Kayleigh

Good afternoon folks Well Pru went into labour exactly 10 weeks from her date paired, I got home from the cavy show to find she had littered a single boar, I watched and waited and nothing else happened, Long story short it turned into an emergency vet job, Pru was fine, eating and tending to her single pup just fine but there was still a pup wriggling about inside, she showed no signs of contractions so i had to take her into my local vet, 4 hours after her initial labour began and 2 shots of Oxytocin and 1 shot of calcuim, the vet and i manually delivered a very very large sow with the help of forceps. The pup had been laying across her womb rather than in the birthing position which meant the vet needed to manually move the pup to pull her out. Pru is doing fantastic and there appears to be no damage to her hind quarters and no internal hemorrhages or issues. This is the first time iv needed vet assistance with a sow littering and it was an experience and a half. Im very thankful for my wonderful vet for allowing me to help and assist with the delivery. Pru and her singleton pup are doing great, This experience has highlighted once again we can do all we feel is right when breeding and things can still go pear shaped. Im lucky Pru didnt need a C-section (it was the next step) Here is a picture of the young boar a little over 24 hours old Kayleigh

Hannibal doesnt quite fit into my themed names! lol.
I tend to name my.pigs after foods or wine ( i have a couple of oddball names but they have stories behind them)
I think im going to name him Jerry ( i have a Ben, so need a Jerry haha)
