Hi Sorry more questions from me! I am hoping to get two showable piggies in a couple of weeks and how I have things mapped out in my head is to get 2 boars first, and show them for a while and get to grips with keeping and looking after piggies, then I would look into getting some sows and show them for a little while before embarking on a breeding programme. Does this sound like a sensible approach? anything I could do differently / better? Any thoughts would be much appreciated Thankyou:)

Usually its common to be offered trio of pigs, usually 2 sows 1 boar to get you started. You dont need to breed right away. Breeders may offer showable pigs but remember we keep the best to ourselves. You get much more satisfaction showing something you have bred (even if you havent bred the parents)
Do lots of research on the your chosen breed, so you can look over the pigs you are getting. I actually printed, mounted and filed the entire NCC cavy breed standards in a folder for casual reading.
Who is the breeder you are hoping to get pigs from?

Thanks kayleigh I asked the breeder for 2 boars that would be suitable for a beginner to have a go at showing. Wonderland cavies, is the breeder we spoke to. So would you suggest not showing until I have some piggies I have bred myself ? Thanks again

Ohh definately do show, it will give you much needed experience.
Once you know what you are looking for then you can breed and you will know what to look out for.
Best of luck!!
