Hello. my name is Mango and I have two guinea pigs named Logan and Popcorn. I am extremely new to this so bear with me .
My main motivation for joining a forum is my peculiar guinea pig Popcorn. We bought him from PetSmart (before you start yelling at me let me justify myself) and he was born with an inverted ear. We decided to instead buy him because my (little) brother has a hamster and frequently goes to PetSmart for supplies. He always wants to look at the guinea pigs and he took a liking to Popcorn. After Popcorn remained in his small cage for about three months, we decided that if no one else would adopt him, we would.
I was aware from the start that Popcorn had a large chance of being a Cuy. We got another guinea pig (before we knew to adopt) from PetSmart and eventually someone from CavyHaven told us that he was a Cuy. (We were adopting our other piggie Logan at that time). His name was Gram and he was also very interesting He had the traditional markings of a Cuy, orange and white, but he also got along very well with Logan. The people at CavyHaven described him as a "gentle giant", for he was bigger than my head! He ended up living for five years, longer than what we expected. When he passed away, we decided to get Logan another friend. We wanted another shot with a Cuy, but we also knew the chances of Logan and another Cuy getting along were low.
Which leads me into the main reason I am creating this... Is Popcorn really a Cuy?
He is pretty large, weighing about 2.6 pounds. That is 0.1 pounds above the "normal" weight, and he is still growing. He has a really pretty pelt, which is a speckled mix between black and orange/brown. He has the traditional wide Cuy snout, and the ear he does have is floppy. But here is when it gets weird.
-He LOVES being cuddled; if I put him down next to me he will always come and try and sit in my lap or snuggle up against my arm or leg or whatever sort of skin that he can see. As of right now (he's in my lap) he's snuggled against my stomach.
-He doest run away... he does the opposite. I walk over to their cage either to give them some attention or to take them out for floor time and he's out of his house and leaning against the bars. My other guinea pigs is an American Shorthair and he doesn't even do that.
-He doesn't struggle when I pick him up. He sits where quietly and just arches his back a little. My other guinea pig doest do well with being picked up though so I try and use a tube and towel with him.
-He has his name Popcorn for a reason . He popcorns SO MUCH! Whenever he gets food, whenever I set out the toys for floor time, whenever he sees me go outside with their food bowel to get grass, and even just randomly running around the cage and hopping. He does it so much its starting to worry me...
-Very outgoing and social. He loves smelling strangers and he is a licker. He used to nibble but now its just licking.
I would include some pictures but as of now I can't really figure out how.. XD
It would be amazing if you guys could help me with this... I know each individual has its own personality, but this is really quite the opposite of what I'm supposed to expect.
And also, I can't figure out how to remove those emote looking things...
