Hi! I specifically joined this forum because I’m currently fostering a cute Abby guinea pig about a year old and I’m wanting to adopt her! However, the rescue I’m fostering for says that she’s going to be a permanent single and can’t be matched. I don’t really have any knowledge on this subject of matching, but I know how important it is for piggies to have a friend. I don’t want to adopt her and her be lonely. Is it possible for a guinea pig to be a permanent single? Or should I adopt her and try to match her with a guinea pig at a different rescue? Thank you!

Hi! While guinea pigs do thrive with another piggy some grow up to be alone and aren't used to social settings and that usually makes them more difficult to match them. There have been guinea pigs that still thrived to be alone however I recommend trying to find a buddy from another shelter, try to find a shelter that has a compatiblity meeting where they introduce the piggies and see if they are a good fit. If all else fails, it is okay to adopt her as a single guinea pig and I'm sure she will be happy getting a new home.
