Three weeks after I started feeding Tilly because she had stopped eating I am STILL feeding her to keep her going. She has had a course of antibiotics. Her teeth have been checked and they are fine she has also been given Daktarin Oral Gel just in case she has an infection in her throat but nothing is working I wonder does anyone else have any suggestions? How long can I keep feeding her for? A very worried Dawn

How long can I keep feeding her for? A very worried Dawn Oh Dawn i'm sorry, (i'm no expert wish i was), have you tried her with Metatone? Does she eat hay, grass etc independantly or has she no interest in food at all? Has she lost weight? I'm assuming no probs weeing/pooping. As far as i know you can syringe feed indefinitely, i know of 2 people who do but the vets & Peter Gurney say not to syringe feed for a long time as it can make the piggy lazy. I fed Lottie for approx 5-6 wks before she left for the bridge & i may have made her lazy but i couldn't sit by & watch her starve Found this on guinea lynx regarding anorexia www.guinealynx.info/anorexia.htmlI'm thinking about you........ Niki x

I'm so sorry about Tilly,I've had pigs who have stopped eating, and I've also syringe fed but not for long as they did'nt make it, any ideas what caused this?,there is also the problem of her teeth if she's not eating any hard food to keep them down.I wish I could help but I really hope she starts eating soon.

Well I think I might have found out what the problem is thanks to Pam (moonshadow) Thanks for taking a look at her for me Pam I am forever grateful to you. We now know there is nothing wrong with her teeth as we checked and they are purfect We think Tilly has bloat. I got her some grip water so lets hope it does the trick. Dawn

Good luck Dawn. You should be successful after the tlc she has had. If it's bloat then she's probably in a lot of pain so she wouldn't feel like eating. Fingers crossed. I hope she'll pick up again now.

I hope she perks up soon she doesn't seem much different today even thought I have been giving her gripe water every two hours Dawn Have you tried Buscopan yet Dawn ?, I think you can maybe get it at the major supermarkets nowadays. I have never used it on bloat for the pigs but I used it years ago for a sow that had prolapsed her uterus and kept straining like she was in labour, and it just totally stopped all the muscle cramps for her. I actually always have it in as I use it myself and its good stuff

Just thought I would let you know I made one the hardest descisions I have ever had to make tonight. When I took Tilly to the vet I had to have her put to sleep The vet said she was too poorly to try an injection to try and get her eating as it had been so long since she had eaten anything on her own. I had been syringe feeding her for almost 4 weeks. Today she looked much worse and had gone off her back legs. She fell asleep peacefully in my arms while I sobbed my heart out. I will miss her so much she was my lead female and my favourite. I know it was the right thing to do even though I feel so bad at least she is at peace now. I tried so hard to save you baby but my best was just not good enough, RIP Tilly my girl

OMG Dawn I am truly sorry. Words can't take away the pain & i know what Tilly meant to you. You know you did everything you could for her & what better way for her to start her journey to the bridge in the arms of her mummy, knowing she was loved. I am thinking about you & your family Tilly you beautiful girl, you sleep in peace, no longer in pain. A beautiful over the bridge Niki x

So very sorry Dawn. I've already told you this I know, but anyone who loves their cavies like you feels the loss so deeply. We all know that feeling on here, but you have given her the last thing you could - rest and peace and freedom from more suffering.

oh Dawn! If I could I would give you the world's biggest hug right now. I know how much Tilly meant to you. It's so hard when we see our pets sick but now you know that she is pain free over the bridge now and she is chowing down on everlasting grass of love.
Big hugs! Rachel xxx
