I "think" i am almost there with this - i did get a largeish lump out today & now all the hardness seems to have gone. I'm still flushing but it's getting more difficult because of the size of the hole. How many days do you NOT have to get anything out of it before you should stop flushing? How many days should his course of Baytril last? The vet didn't say anything & in my anger i forgot to ask. He's been on Baytril 5 full days today. This is him today This was him Saturday Niki x

Oh wow Niki it's looking much better. If you aren't getting anything out I would stop flushing but just to be on the safe side keep giving him the baytril for another couple of days. You have done an excellent job Well done. Dawn

Hi, I have had a couple of piggies with abcesses, in my opinion keep giving the baytril for a while otherwise the abcess will just come back. My sow Ange had an abcess on her face whilst pregnant and she had Septrin for about 3 weeks (septrin is better against persistant abcesses). Hope he's better real soon xxx

Hi Niki....Have just been reading all about Fitz. It really looks as though you've done a great job,of nursing him back to health. I haven't personally dealt with anything like this, but with my experience of human patients, once an abscess stops draining, and the surrounding skin apears less inflamed, you could probably stop the flushing. I would suggest continuing the baytril for a few days, just to ensure Fitz doesn't have a flare-up. Really hope he's 100% well very soon! Irene. xx

Thank you Irene, The hole is now approx the size of a pin head & there's been no pus since Thursday morning ;D I'm hoping this means it won't fill again but will have to see. His skin isn't inflamed until i take the top off it (congealed blood) & start messing then his skin gets a bit pink. I'll be so happy when he & Arthur can join the rest in the shed, our bedroom smells like a stable & the dogs can't resist jumping into the run to hoover up the poops Must point out the piggies are back in their cage when the dogs go hoovering Niki x

Excellent news, he sounds like he's healed up a treat. I'm sure he's glad to be back with his buddy again!
PS - Ignore my post on the other thread, I didn't see this before!
