hey
im not sure what to do? my guinea archie is quite restless he doesnt seem to lay down for long, not like he used to. he seems a little stressed as well. His brother Eddy died yesterday but was not with him from the day before. Archie is a grumpy guinea and is not the biggest fan of people, so have been givin him hugs but he doesnt like to stay out of his cage long. Im also not sure how he would get on if i introduced another guinea, or what the best way to do it would be and im feeling very sad now and not sure how i would feel about another guinea in the house? what should i do?
thanks

I can't tell you want to do but when Chips lost Scampi he was very out of sorts, very quiet & not his normal chatty self. So I got Ranger and although they didn't hit it off they did live happily side by side. Ranger unfortunately was PTS a few weeks ago & Chips again went very quiet, so I bought two girls who live next door to his C&C cage & he is back to his old happy self again. SO in my case I would certainly get another one to cheer up the lonely piggie.
Good luck in what ever you decide.

Yep, Easter went very solitary when I removed Otter from the cage. Otter was just too sick and Easter wanted to play with him. Easter also didn't like that I was giving so much attention to Otter. Now that Otter is better and back in the same cage they hardly leave each other's side. They get very lonely unless you can play with him but that's hard to do when he's not a very friendly piggie. In my case, it was easier to have two but when you're done having them...then, well, I'm not so sure because it is hard on them to be alone. I'm also new at this so this is just from all the reading I've done on piggies. We're actually thinking about having a third so that encase one gets sick there's always two healthy ones together for company. Hugz and keep us posted, Tina

england, northamptonshire. have just rung a rehomin centre and didnt get very far, the lady said they generally put there guineas in pairs of girls and boys, so that doesnt help me. she did say that if i have him neutered that if there was a group of two girls and a boy at there place, she could then maybe help but no promises. i cant put him through the stress of bein neutuered and then leave him on his own. not sure what to do

I would get him a friend. We did that once Otter was better because he was getting a whole bunch of attention and Easter quit eating and started sulking. So hubby gave us a pretty boy named Sparkles by my daughter and Easter is a happy piggie again. Otter wasn't to fond of the new one but everyone has adjusted now. They all snuggle in the same pigloo.

Thats the problem with rescue centres they do pair them up so the can home them two at a time . I would keep trying but if you get no luck with rescue centres try a local breeder and get a baby boar . I know you want to try rehome a piggy from a rescue centre but you need to do what's best for Archie and to be honest with you if it was me i would not be waiting on a rescue centre if my pigy was down because he is missing his friend . good luck x

thank u for ur help,
archie has calmed down a lot today and yesterday and seems ok, he is laying down more and relaxing a little (more like his usual behaviour). my only concern with getttin a male to go with him is that they will fight as archie is quite a dominant, grumpy ( but still lovely) guinea. have been lookin into neutering on this forum, the pros and cons. and if he does have it done then it will be 3 weeks before he can have a lady friend introduced. im really undecided on what to do and whats best for him?
