I found one of my favourite pigs a couple of days ago with a very poorly eye. It was completely blue with a big white spot in the middle. I took her to the vet the same day. Again, I was very disappointed by the vet, who said she didn't know what it was, did a few tests and gave 3 different kinds of drops and asked me to come back to see another vet as she didn't know what the problem was... It cost me £61 for no answers and having to come back to see another vet! I was furious and I let her know -politely. So until I see that other vet next week, I'm giving her the drops. But it looks bad and painful. The eye is still completely clouded and the big white spot looks almost like a lump on the surface of the eye. Could it be an injury? An ulcer? A tumour? I'm just really down because she was my favourite pig, she did very well at shows and was so pretty, it hurts me to see her so disfigured. On top of it, vet bills seem to pile up at the moment with my recently neutered boar's stitches look like they're coming off this morning... I'm definitely having a bit of a bad time at the moment! Here's a picture of the damage.

I am sorry to hear about your guinea pig it really does look sore! We have cattle and one once bobbed her eye and looked the same as your guinea pig, to me it looks like she has had some thing poke her in it or perhaps a hay seed, what ever it was it has damaged the surface. We had to use an eye ointment tube from the vets (antibiotic) and her eye went back to normal, I presume some of the drops the vet has given you will be antibiotic and so you should soon see an improvement. hope this helps and I hope she recovers soon xx

Thank you guys. I'm seeing that other vet tomorrow. Eyes are supposed to be her thing. We'll see. The white bit in the middle looks a little smaller I think since I found her, and less "buldgy". It's all smooth now. But the cloudiness is still completely over the eye and the rim of the eyeball is blood red... I don't want her to lose her eye, and if it has to stay like this, well, as long as she's not in pain, I'll have to cope with it... Don't know why, but with my luck so far, I'm expecting bad news tomorrow.

The vet will probably give you fucithalmic eye drops/cream and Baytril, then she will be right as rain in no time so dont worry too much

Well been to the vet's again. She has apparently got a bad ulcer, the damage is important but healing well. It is going to take a while though so in the meantime, the main thing is to avoid any more damage to that eye from which she is currently blind... Easy said! I can't split her form the other girls as i'm afraid they won't be re-introduced easiy (i've already got quite a squabbling lot). So I tried dividing the hutch with some C&C grids, a bit precarious, I'll see if it's survived tomorrow. I feel a bit sad for Winnie being segragated but I can't risk her losing her eye. The vet said it could easily burst if the damaged area gets any more trauma! They don't do eyepatches for pigs apparently! Well, I hope it will end up well...
By the way, at least my boar's all right, the stitches are coming off but it's normal and he's healing well...

Well, one week on and Winnie's looking LOADS better. Still got some healing to do but it's definitely on the way to (hopefully) a full recovery. Got to see the vet again next thursday.
