Hi, i have just bought two little girls and i have noticed the Rolo ( named cause of her colouring) is alot smaller than Issy, i can also feel all her bones at her back end, i have weighed them, Rolo is only 6 1/2 oz and Issy is 10 1/2 oz
I can smell a strong smell of urine on her and she seems wet around that area. Her breathing is different from Issy's it seems more up and down rather than smooth also sometimes her head will move forward and backward with her breathing,,,,,
Please help, i don't know much about these little beauties but i can see a big difference in my two. Tonicha x

Hi, I am sorry to hear this, i am worried about how much less she weighs and think you should take her to a vet. You can try treating her yourself 1st but the trouble is you don't know how long she's been this way. It could be cystitis as she's wet all the time and perhaps the pain has taken ner appetitie away. When they stop eating they go down hill v quickly. See Peter Gurney's pages on this: www.oginet.com/pgurney/cystitis.htmLet us know how you get on x

Yes it could be cystitis. I use cystoprin when mine get it and also give baytril your vet should be able to prescribe it for you when you go.

My poorly little baby has had to stay at the vets, she is not well at all and the vet said she may not make it. He did say that because she is eating that is a good sign, i will have to wait till they phone me in the morning and just hope it will be good news. I will let you know. Tonicha x

Sounds like cystitis to me , i have an adult sow in here at the mo because she was wet right up her backend and the urine was strong . I had her at the vets who took xrays thinking it was more serious but they found nothing and she is on pain relief and antibiotics

The vet had phoned and i can pick her up this afternoon, i am soooo happy. The vet said she has a chest invection, urine infection, and was dhydrated (?), he said she was very thin and as she is so little maybe she souldn't have been away from mum yet. Tonicha x

I looked on lilac cavies forum to see how your little piggy was today, but have found your thread on here as well.
I am so pleased that she has survived overnight and that you can take her home this afternoon. Hopefully she will continue to improve and you will have saved her life by taking her to the vets, but I would certainly let P@H know the cost as they hopefully will refund the cost of the vet bill, as a good will gesture. It is certainly worth trying. Let us all know how she goes.

It was lovely to meet little Rolo today Tonicha Considering she is so small she can certainly eat. Aimee gave her a big handful of grass and by the time she went home it had all gone so hopefully that is a good sign

I'm so pleased you took her to the vet and she's now improving. Am keeping everything crossed but like the others say, the fact she's eating so well is a fab sign. Best wishes to you and the little one.

Well i thought we were going to loose Rolo today, she was making some really strange noises with her breathing, phoned the vet and got her in straight away, her breathing had carmed right down but the vet has put her on some more antibiotics, this time injected, she has to have them 3 days apart, not sure how many she has to have but she is back on Sat. The vet said there is nothing else she can do we just have to keep our fingers crossed.
Will keep you all updated, Tonicha x

Great news Rolo's chest is now clear, they gave her her last injection and she has to stay on the antibiotics for another week just so that she isn't suddenly taken off them and she doesn't have to go back unless i'm worried about her.
I am over the moon and hope that she will just get stronger and stronger from here on.
Thank you for all your post, Rolo is such a calm and loving little piggy and i am sooooooo glad we can look forwards with her now.
