We got some kitten formula as part of our pregnancy kit for Hilda and on the tin it says that it can be given to pregnant animals as a supplement. So should we be giving some to Hilda to help her get ready?

I presume that Hilda is a guineapig. There isn't any need for you to give any milk to your piggy while she is pregnant. Just make sure that she is getting enough fruit and veg so that she is obtaining her daily requirement of Vit C. She also needs dried food and lots of hay and a water bottle as pregnant sows seem to drink more than they would normally. You could give her some just grass or ready grass as this is full of goodness.

Thanks! I didn't think we needed to give her anything other than what we're giving her (which is all the things you mentioned above ) but I just wanted to make sure seeing as it said it on the tin. The kitten formula is just as a precaution in case anything goes wrong with the birth and we need to feed the pups ourselves

Thanks for the advice Jemma. Do you know where the best place to get critical care is? Can you buy it in pet shops or from vets or is there somewhere online?

What sort of shelf life does the science recovery have? It's something I wanted to buy for our piggy first aid kit anyway so it would be no harm to have it in, but I don't want to buy a load and have it go out of date.

Hi Orlaith, i was thinking the same, i'd love to add a couple of sachets to my guinea pig 1st aid kit but wouldn't need 10 or want to spend that much for it to run out of shelf life. Maybe a few of us could share a batch between us.

Go along to your Vets and ask for a couple of sachets! Thats what I did! They will normally have it in for their own animals and will price it up per sachet. For me it worked to about £2.40 for 20g!
