I had a bit of a panic earlier today, my 4 month old sow was acting very odd...either sitting miserably or listing to one side when she did walk. I was rather concerned that she'd had a stroke until I saw her eye was partially closed. I got her out and saw a piece of grass seed sticking out of her eye, I got some tweezers and got the offending seed out..I can't believe how big it was and how far in her eye it must have been! We've bathed it now with sterilised water and it looks loads better already..and she's definitely happier, bouncing about all over the place .I'm just going to keep a watch on it now to check there's nothing left in and that I don't need to get any Optrex or eye ointment..but hopefully we've solved it now. I've never experienced this before but luckily I had read about it on her so knew what to do ...so thanks to whoever posted the solution

Hi, sorry to hear that but thank god you noticed and helped her. Just a tip- cold tea is a very good ointment safe to use on eyes. Just made with a normal teabag without milk of course then allowed to cool. Bathe her eye area with that using a cotton bud and that will help it recover. Poor little thing but it's such a good feeling when you can help them.

Oh that's great...thanks for that tip on the cold tea, that's really useful to know. We actually opened some of my other halfs contact lenses so that I could use the sterilised water in it as I didn't have any other! Its looking fine now, but I shall bathe it again later just to be sure. I still can't get over the size of the seed ..it must have been 2cm long! It feels bad enough to have a speck of dust in our eye so how must that have felt.
