Hey! I noticed yesterday that Acheron and Skylar are rumbling a bit - does this mean I have to separate them from their mammy and (possible) sister? (We think that Styx is a girl). They're only 11 days old so it seems so young And if we do have to separate them early, will we have to supplement their food with science recovery or anything, seeing as they aren't weaned yet? Thanks!

They are a bit too young yet to leave mum. Have you seen them trying to mount her? If not I would try and leave them a little longer at least until they are 18 days or so old or they weigh around 200g-250g. You wont have to suppliment them if you take them away because they will be eating solids and will be drinking less milk by then.

Cool, thanks Dawn! No, they haven't tried to mount Hilda or Styx - to be honest, they rumble at each other and at Xander and then start popcorning all over the place, as if they're playing a game or something. It's never prolonged, just a few wiggles of the hips before bouncing all over the cage So I'll leave them be for now. I was thinking it was far too early - they're barely born, I'd hate to be separating them! They're eating loads of solids already, I'm so amazed! The three babies sit together in the litter tray and eat hay together and they eat loads of dry food and they've started getting really interested in the veggies too

Okay, the attempted mountings have started. Eeep! Acheron was sniffing Hilda's bum all day (I guess she's roughly due to be in heat about now) and now this evening he's chasing her around a lot. Do we need to take the boys out now? They're still only 16 days old and still feeding but their weights are good (224g and 232g). I just feel so cruel taking them away already

Yes I think it is now time to take them away Orlaith. They are good weights and are eating lots independently so they will be fine

Ah jeez, I'm after putting the boys in a separate cage and they are flipping out. They're crying non-stop for Hilda, really loudly! It's been going on for a good fifteen minutes without letting up and I feel just horrible about it. I know it's for the best, especially for Hilda's health, but I can't help but feel like I'm the meanest piggy-mommy ever They've loads of hay and food to distract them but they're still going. I know they'll quiet down soon but I feel scrap about it. I can't even take them out for cuddles because then they'll think they're going back to the other cage and they'll never get used to their new home.

They will calm down soon, it's understandable that they will call for mummy at first It does pull at your heart strings though

They were quiet last night and ate all their dinner so they were okay after a while. Today they wheeked for their breakfast and wheeked for their hay so they're doing well. Phew!

Yeah, I spent the morning at home (waiting for a delivery) so I got to watch them and make sure they were okay. They cried a few times but not nearly as bad as yesterday evening and they distracted themselves pretty soon by chasing each other and playing. I'm so grateful there's two of them, otherwise it would be horrible.
Hilda doesn't seem to have noticed they're gone, to be honest! I think she was a bit fed up of being chased and climbed over so she's probably enjoying the peace and quiet she has. Styx misses the boys more than she does - Styx calls to them every so often, she must miss her brothers.
Oh, but I saw the CUTEST thing this morning too. We bought a snuggle tunnel off Helen and I put it in with Hilda, Xander and Styx last night and when I peeked in this morning, Hilda was lying in there sleeping with her eyes closed and Styx was snuggled up next to her having a nap too. I could have cried it was so sweet!
