Well, it is about Bracken, still and again. 3 operations, weeks of baytril, flushing, cleaning, stitching, restitching, glueing... and £250 later : He's had it all and it's still not over. I'm losing hope and am getting increasing angry at the vet who -to me- did a very poor job and caused irreversible damage to hsi perineal area. I am going to see another vet tomorrow for a second opinion on all this. I just need someone to tell me : it's just bad luck, they couldn't have done any better OR agree that it's a mess and maybe offer me some solutions rather than just saying "ah well, I think he's had enough now" and leaving it here. The last set of stitched they did last monday is a joke. It was supposed to close an open gap near his penis where the skin had broken down and healed as a hole due to constant flushing (want to sort this point out too). But the hole is still there, the stitches are lose and not even regular : it was a waste of time, money and suffering for my poor little Bracken. He's been so brave, still looks bright and happy despite all this and the lampshade around his head. I'm so fed up. I should NEVER have had him done and I should not have let that vet operate on him so many times despite my doubts. Now he's ruined and I don't know how this is all going to end.

Poor Bracken, I am so sorry (hugs). I had Diego neutered (as you know) and it's been 5 days and there is pus coming out of an incision. Although I drained it all tonight and he'll go on antibx tomorrow. I really had hoped he'd be one who wasn't affected. It's hard to do what you think is right- I even had 2 different vets urge me to neuter him.
Well, I will think good thoughts for you and Bracken. Keep us updated.

Diego has an open hole next to his penis too, I flushed it today but I think I'll leave it alone now and hope that it starts to close up on its own.
How is Bracken doing now?

At LAST! A vet that seems to know what he's on about! He told me not to worry about the hole. He thinks it will probably get infected but that's how it's slowly going to heal on its own, provided I keep an eye on it. He took those stupid stitched out and found that there was a fungal infection there which would explain the poor healing process and why Bracken chewed his penis : it was itchy! So he gave me some cream, did a skin sscrape and a different kind of antibiotic and I'm seeing him again next week. Cost me another little fortune but at least I feel I'm on the right tracks now and can see some light at the end of the tunnel... Fingers crossed, it might soon be just a distant nightmare.

I'm so pleased you are reasured by another vet. It's all just pot luck who you get to see isn't it. I know all vets are experts but it seems from so many people's experiences that not that many of them are guinea pig experts. It's the same with GPs, you can never see the same one twice and they give you a different opinion and you just have to accept what they say. Well done for getting a 2nd opinion, Bracken is so sweet, bless him for coping so well.
