Well he's eating, but he is quite slow to walk around. After all the flushing out his wound looks better but it is still quite swollen, though about 2/3 the size it was before.
Still on baytril, took his 2nd dose today and I'm hoping that they'll really kick in in the next couple of days and knock the rest of it out. My vet thinks by Monday it should be "cleared all the way out" so lets hope so.
I may consider taking him to another vet in town, who I hear is good with GPs. Ugh. Cross your fingers.

I hope Diego gets well soon. Xander was groggy and slow for a good few days after his op and that was without any problems (fingers crossed!) so maybe the slowness isn't all down to his little infection. At least he's eating again, that's a great sign!

Well here we are 11 days out from the surgery. Left side still swollen, but now size of a small grape. The other side not swollen at all but a hole is left open in the incision and is draining a bit of pus. I've been checking him twice a day, cleaning the area and expressing the contents of the abscesses. Today they were less stinky than before, so hopefully that's a good sign.
He's eating fine, a bit slow still, and his poops are very small, about a 1/3 of what they usually are. Wondering if that's from the antibiotic.
I dunno, I'm thinking about calling another vet maybe. It is getting better, very slowly, poor thing. He chatters at me whenever I come near the cage. I can't say as I blame him! There's an update, hoping he'll be better soon though!

Not smelling as bad is definitely a plus! It's great that he's improving, even if it's slow.

Morning update. Doing much better. Still some swelling on the left side, but the drainage has no pus, only a bit of blood. The right side is pus free no swelling at all. No smell. I did bathe all the pigs last night and that seems to have perked him up a bit as well. Continuing antibx and 50mg vit. C daily, in addition to his veggies, pellets and hay. He has not harassed Marquee one bit, and they are both happier, which is nice. Hopefully that continues. I'm sure Diego doesn't feel like humping, but so far, he hasn't humped! That's the update. Looking up, thankfully.

Well, more swelling and more pus. I called the vet to see what she thought. She seemed outright annoyed that the antibx werent' working, she said it was a heavy duty enough dose that if it was bacterial that it would have knocked it out by now. She thinks he is reacting to the sutures inside. We are going to wait till monday to see if anything improves (that's when the meds run out) and if there is still pus/swelling she's going ot put him under and take the suture material out. My poor man I am really feeling guilty about this. He is eating well though and active.

Hey, how are things looking for Diego now? Are the sutures gonna have to come out?

Well, by monday, his last antibx dose, the swelling had really really gone down. I did get a small amount of very wet sticky pus out of the one side and none out of the other. I've been checking every day now and it continues to look better. It might be that his hiney hurts him still possibly, but we have been able to drop his nickname: Humperdink! and he is much much less aggressive and as a bonus, has put on some weight since he stopped humping all day long. The stinker. Knocking wood that he stays well now

Just another update. His abscesses have cleared up, pus gone, drainage gone and incisions closing up. I will still continue to check on him though as I've heard they can still abscess later. I do believe he was reacting to the suture tho.
he is also now quite nice to Marquee, no more humping, and as a plus he's gained wait because he's not spending so much energy powerhumping and chasing all the time! Nice to not feel bony hips and spine when I pet him!
