I know that there have been several other postings about this problem but I wonder if anyone else has noticed that this problem with claws becoming twisted seems to be a problem that occurs more as piggies get older? My 3 older girls have all got twisted claws and the 2 girls I had previously also got twisted claws as they got older...the other younger girls don't have this problem at the moment though. Tracy

Same here, my older piggies nails are curled, mainly their "thumb" nails on their front feet

yup, my piggy max does too. i was wondering if maybe it happens more when they are kept on a soft bedding like fleece or vetbed,as there isnt anything to wear the claws down, but i dont know for sure.

I havent come across this problem from piggies iv had from a young age, my Lola (rescue sow) has curled toes but i think this was due to her claws not being cut for a long time. All my girls now have short nails and straight toes, i tend to cut their nails every 2 weeks to keep them nice and short.

If you regularly keep your piggies' nails trimmed, there should be little to no curling at all.

hi, i've had my 2 boy pigs for 2 years and have never cut their nails.. just noticing lately that they are twisted outways. I'll have to give it a try, it doesn't look comfortable. Just an idea for other people though...... I put a flat rock at the entrance to their bedding area, so they have to walk on it all the time... this keeps the nails from being scratchy and wears them down a little. Do i have to use nail clippers that u use for dogs/cats ?

They sell clippers for small animals at pet shops. They are smaller than the dog/cat clippers and work really well. Sometimes offering your pig a treat or fresh veggies helps make them more comfortable.
