I just wanted to ask a question really,
my Blossom came down with a nasty infection two weeks ago this tuesday, she was taken to the vets, had blood tests, x ray and it revealed that she had a nasty infection, she also had diarrhea and went completely off her food.
She stayed at the vets for one week where she was fed and looked after with very slow progress, now I have her at home and I've been feeding her since monday, her poos have gone back to normal but she eats every single one, over the last couple of days, I put her food bowl onto the table (dry food) a lettuce leaf, banana and maybe celery and she started to pick at her dry food with not much enthusiasm, but wont eat it in her run, but at least its a start, and im still feeding her. Then I put her into her run where she will sleep in her cozy for much of the day and come out and have a dodder now and again, shes alot more active but progress is very slow, has anyone else had a similar experience? and was wondering how long it takes?
Shes brighter within her self and mantaining her weight more.
Shes still taken baytril and metacalm and a gut easing medication.

Progress is always very slow after a bout of diorrhoea as they tend to lose a lot of weight, but it will go back on over a period of time. Try feeding her just plain grass as well as her dried food as they love it and it puts condition on them very quickly, but start by giving her a little bit and gradually increase it as you don't want to start her off with diorrhoea again. With regard to eating their poos. All guineapigs do this. They always eat the soft ones as it provides them with VitB which is essential for them. This is the problem with older boars and sometimes but very rarely older sows as well, when they become impacted, as they can't eat their poo and in order to keep them alive Vit B has to be given in their food on a daily basis.
Good luck with your little friend I hope she soon recovers. If however you are worried about her always ask your vet's advice.
