Hi everyone,
Lancelot passed away on Monday evening after a week and a half of illness; most likely kidney failure. He stopped eating (which was a big scare), then developed respiratory symptoms a week later (the vet said it was most likely a secondary infection). I would like to get a new piggie, but I don't want it to catch a respiratory illness. I will be replacing the litter box and wood chews, but can I keep the dish and water bottle if I run them through the dishwasher with no soap? How should I clean out the cage itself?

So sorry to hear that you have lost your piggie, but at least you tried to save him so you have done all you could for him.
The best thing to wash a cage out with is Virkon as this kills most germs. Your vet should be able to supply you with a sachet or alternatively any equestrian or farm supply outlet should have it. Dishes and bottles are quite cheap to buy so I would buy new ones if I were you, just to be on the safe side.
Good luck with your new piggy. I am sure you will have a very nice one and he will have a lovely home with you.

I live in the US and I don't know if I can get that product. Would some sort of antibacterial hand soap be okay? Or is there something a little more readily available I can get?
