I woke up this morning to find Seti lying on his side looking dead. I was horrified but as I approached his cage he got up and ran away - phew! I noticed that he had drunk 100ml of water yesterday and was weeing lots. I took him to the vet and he did a urine test. Seti is not diabetic, but he did have traces of blood in his wee. I have a 1 week course of oral suspension baytril for him and we need to go back in a week. The vet said that Seti had high levels of calcium in his urine which made it very cloudy and that his urine was very alkaline which is symbolic of a vitamin c deficancy. I took Seti off Timothy hay a while ago and now he is on standard meadow hay, has this any bearing on his calcium levels. Also Seti is very picky about his fresh fruit and veggies only really liking apple and green beans. Does anybody have any advice about how I can increase his vit c and reduce calcium. Does anybody now what actually causes UTI or Kidney infections in piggies? Thanks Jenny and Seti

Aww poor Seti,
Does he like spring greens? My piggies love them also Celery is a good everyday thing to feed. If he isn't eating much veggies that will cause him to have vit c deficiency. Hay wont make any difference to this.
Some piggies take longer than others to get used to new foods. I would keep gving him them and soon he will start to eat them. If he only eats certain things try not to feed those and feed other stuff until he eat them too. Pepper after high in vitamin c if you can get him to eat those you are laughing. Also don't feed spinach or parsley too often these can cause problems with high calcium.

Thanks for the advice, I will definately try him on some pepper, he seems to have a sweet tooth so maybe an orange or yellow one would be good for him.
I won't be able to give him celery though, as I am allergic to it!!
