Has anybody seen a lump on the right side of a young guinea pig's neck? it's the equivalent of where a man's adam's apple is only it's to one side. I noticed it on Sunday and I took ehr to the vets today. all they could say what that he didn't KNOW what it could be and they could do a biopsy under general anaesthetic. I know that pgs don't cope very well with general so i said that i'd just keep an eye on it for now... that decision was helped by the fact that the op will cost £160!
it's just a solid lump, it doesn't hurt her when you touch it, she still has full range of movement i.e. she can still clean herself properly, and it's not squidgy/feel like there's anything moveing around it in. She's also eating, drinking and weeing ok and she doesn't seem to have changed in temperament at all...
anyone have any ideas?? xxx

no it's not. it doesn't seem squishy either... Gig's had an abcess before so I kinda know what they feel like...
Finding one would be an amazing thing!!

Hi all i can say is that solid lumps are more likely to be tumors :-( , if its soft its most likely to be abscess, fatty lumps or cysts . I am not a vet but this is going on my opinion only without seeing the animal so please dont take my advise seriously without the backup from a vet . I would do the same as you and not do anything till you see how the lump grows , if it grows and because of where it is you might need to decide on doing something later . I hope you get to the bottom of it soon xx

Thanks for your responses... she's fine at the moment still happy and normal etc. I can'f find a cavy savvy vet anywhere near me and my vet said that there's nothing he can do other than operate or wait and see. she seems ok so i'm not tooooo worried...
anybody else got any ideas? xx

I've just noticed that my baby pig has grown a lump on her neck - have no idea what it is and have never seen this before on my other piggies. Was hoping that it was nothing to worry about, but guess I'm going to have to go to the vet. Like Pinigig's guinea, my pig is still eating and drinking fine and is only 14 weeks old...

Yeah that;s about how old Minty is... We've been away over the weekend and it seems to have gone down a bit so here's to hoping...

My Ruby had a lump on her chin earlier on in the year and it turned out to be a benign tumour. We took her to the CCT and Ruby was given a local anaesthetic and the lump was removed.

All sorted - it went after another weeks or so, i'm so relieved that I waited as I would have risked Minty's life needlessly x
