Hi I think I figured out how to make the picture smaller. This is what Velma's little eye looks like. Please tell me what is wrong. I am heart broken over her not being well. Thank you

I saved it so that we can see it I hope you don't mind. I think it looks like a bit of fat, we had a pig once with it when he was born and he always had it. It never seemed to bother him though so we just left it alone. I think it could be genetic.

Hi I don't mind that you saved it at all. I would like to upload another where you can see this little bump better but first I will need to make it smaller. This \growth has gotten bigger and I hope it won;t continue to grow. I wonder if it bothers her field of vision? Please let me know if its ok to upload another picture and feel free to save it; I appreciate your help. Oh, and Velma was not born with this. I noticed it the other day as a very small, red bump and it has just gotten bigger. Someone mentioned "cherry eye"...is it possible that is what this is?

What a beautiful guinea pig! I just read this about cherry eye and it does sound like the same thing (though this refers to dogs): "In my opinion it is ugly and scary, though it looks worse than it is. It is a red looking bump that seems to be growing out of the corner of the dog’s eye and you feel like it is going to “pop out” at any moment. Of course, it is not.. Most doctors say it is a congenital defect in the ligament that holds the gland of the third eyelid in place. It can be surgically repaired, however sometimes the surgery doesn’t hold the gland in place and it comes back up for all to see. Seeing it does not mean that it is not functioning, it just means it is not pretty to look at. Removing the gland if surgery can’t hold it in place is not recommended as this gland produces tears necessary for your dog’s eye. Without it your dog can suffer from “dry eyes” and that can be very painful. The interesting thing is, if surgery does not hold the gland back in place and it pops up, time can work on your side as the “cherry eye” may decrease in size. Even though this gland only supplies about 30 percent of the eye’s tear production, keeping it, no matter how bad it may look, is insurance for your dog’s eyes. It is tears that help keep the cornea of the eye healthy. The cornea has no blood vessels of its own, so the oxygen and nutrients that are supplied to it come through the tears. Cherry eye is not known to be painful, but it can be irritating to the dog and what do dogs do when something irritates them. They scratch and it is the scratching that can cause problems that lead to eye injuries". (From ezinearticles.com/?Understanding-Cherry-Eye/The-Third-Eyelid&id=433536)So I would suggest that while ever she seems unbothered by it, leave it be but if she starts to scratch at it or rub it a lot then perhaps a trip to the vets to see if they can recommend anything.

What a wonderful bunch of caring piggy loving people. Here is another pix of my velma; i know you may have to do something to my picture to be able to view it and that is ok. I hope it is nothing more than a little fat or something minor as I don't want her to be in pain or uncomfortable. Thank you all so much for your concern.

Thank you for all your nice comments about my Velma. For some reason my last picture did not show up on the site, but later this evening when I took her out of her cage to check her eye, the lesion is smaller and there was blood on the tissue when I dabbed it. Does cherry eye act like this?

I guess she could have scratched it accidently whist cleaning, mind you if it seems smaller maybe it wasn't pea eye at all. I would see what a vet has to say because you don't want it to get infected.
