I have 7 cavies - Used to be 5 but we extended the indoor accomodation and took in two babies that had been bought as pets, kept outside and the kids were allergic to them.
We did have a few problems initially but they all seem settled now.
I noticed tonight that Mrs P (baby) was bunny hopping. We got her out and had a good look at her, but I can't see any obvious injury.
I feed them on excel nuggets, a selection of veg including broccoli, carrots, red peppers and tomato's (the outside not the pips) and plenty of hay.
I think she is being bullied by Lilly as well (who is grumpy with all her fellow cavies) but I keep hearing Mrs P squeak, run in and Lilly is always next to her looking guilty.
I'm not sure whether to split the pack up (there are two seperate runs with hutches split by a tube) to see if she improves or get her down the vet tomorrow?
Please help. I'm really concerned.
Thank you

I think so - she is a short haired smooth coated piggie - black and white with a small brown patch. She is eating fine. I'm definately going to take her to the vet tomorrow either way just not sure whether to take her in as an emergency now?

I've just read the stuff on OD. Both her and her sister are quite shiny in their coats, however they are both quite young still - probably about 6 months - I would need to check with the previous owner for the exact age.
Based on what I've read I think I will take her to a specialist - do you know if there is one near norwich (norfolk) who is any good?
Thank you so much for your help Mel x

This is a piccy of her at the holiday hutches. We picked them up on 16th November and she definately wasn't doing the bunny hopping then. Tonight is the first night I've noticed it I feel terrible for her, I just want to make her better

Thank you for your messages. I took her to the vets this morning with the intention of having an x-ray done. The vet examined her and couldn't see any sign of a break at the moment. She kept her in as she wasn't bunny hopping this morning at all. They phoned me at 2pm and said as she was moving normally they would prefer not to x-ray (due to anesthetic), but to try a course of anti-inflammatory first to see it she had a strain or had been bullied. The long and short of it is that I have two pens in the lounge with their hutches in which are separated by a tube. I've sealed the tube and put her with her sister, Felicity and Goldie who are very peaceful cavies. I've got the medication to give her and I'm going to monitor closely. Weird thing is I got her back and she was really happy - running round the pen and snuffling stuff and mixing with the other girls. Got to about 8:30 and she started the bunny hopping again. I'll do another update in a couple of days Thank you for all your help. Mel xxx

I'm glad to hear that she is doing great. But I am a little confused by what you mean by bunny hopping. Piggies, when happy, pop like popcorn. It is something to see that's for sure. They fly up in the air and pop all over the place. There are videos of piggies popcorning on youtube. I had a video somewhere, I'd have to see if I could find it. Was this what you were referring to?
