Bettys babies are now 4 days old but have noticed in the last two days their eyes are a bit crusty, two of them have one of their eyes glazed over the same way as Fred's had when he scratched it. I wondered if there was anything I should do, should I wipe them with a warm wet cotton bud or should I just leave them. I think they have probably scratched them because they are always jumping and climbing over each other. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas.

I would wipe them clean every so often and them keep an eye on them to make sure they don't get infected.

If Brolene doesn#t work try some Fusithelmic which your vet should be able to supply you with, this will certainly get rid of it.

Hi Caroline,
My orphan baby had exactly the same crusty eyes as your babies, so every time I fed him I just wiped his eyes gently with warm boiled water. His eyes are fine and bright now with no sign of crustiness, so I'm guessing it was some afterbirth or something which had stuck his lids together. If it hadn't cleared with just plain water I'd have gone on to try whole cows milk - I use this if my eyes are irritated or if my children get conjunctivitis. Milk contains natural immunoglobulins which fight infections. I should think most of these are destroyed by pasteurisation, but it's soothing and it works for us!
