hi all im terribly worried i let my 5 sows have their usual evening run around in the spare room and when i went to get them i ve found they have found a plastic tesco bag and a large hole (about 6 inches long by 4 inches wide) has been eaten in the side of it. im not sure which one it was and now im terrified they ll be very poorly. thery seem fine at the mo but its nearly my bedtime and worrie about leaving them overnight. im goign to leave loades of hay in their hutch to help their digestion. pleaser can anyone advise me???

They should be fine, i (& my friends) have had piggies nibble at plastic at sometime & they've been fine - they do seem to love the stuff You're doing right in watching them & that's all i can advise; the plastic should move through the gut quickly due to their fast metabolism but if you do see any of them not looking quite right then i'd get them to the vets.

I had a piggy that used to grab at the bag sometimes when I tried to give her veg and she would eat a little but she was fine. I am sure your piggies will be ok too

My friends' piggies once ate a load of duck tape and they were just fine, so fingers crossed!

Hi, try not to worry. Remember they are not like dogs who can chew sizeable pieces of stuff down (whole socks etc) so the bits they have chewed will be very, very small cos of how their teeth and mouths are built physically. Also, when i first took Percy on as a rescue he came with a plastic igloo that out of sheer boredom he had eaten half of! That was hard plastic and never did him any harm so soft plastic is less worry. My boys will also happily chew on carrier bags if mistakenly given the chance and it's scary but they have always been fine.
