can someone describe how a guinea pig has a seizure?
peepi (10 wk old male) has acted quite weird twice now, both times after getting himself very worked up over gloomy (10wk old female). they have social time under strict supervision as i dont want them mating, but he spends the whole time strutting, rumbling and trying to mount her (much to her annoyance). he generally gets worked up pretty bad so we are keeping play time totally separate now.
on the two occasions (once in my partners hands and once on return to his cage) peepi has repetitively shoved his head in the air and sort of rolled around kicking on to his side for 3 to 5 seconds. then hes gone about although its business as usual.
the only other time ive seen him do something similar is when hes excited and running around. as well as popcorning, he hops in the air and twitches before landing.
when we first got him (at 6 weeks) i took him to the vets for treatment as he showed signs of possible early mites. patches of red dry flakey skin, excessive scratching where he was crying out, 3 to 4 strands of hair coming out together with a skin flake. but thats all cleared up now and has been for weeks, but im aware seizures are associated with mites.
im hoping hes just excited. hes a very active, excited and noisy little boy. he eats drinks pees and poos no dramas and has been putting on weight fine.
thanx
