Hey guys, wonder if I can get an opinion/advice. My girl "Bea" who I'm due to put with a male this weekend for our first mating has a swallon middle toe on one of her back feet. It isn't red or sore. I've felt it, squeezed it etc, she's not in pain and its not causing her any trouble when walking or anything. I noticed it about a week ago I was advised to keep an eye on it and not bother treating it is nothing happens with it. However, could this be a problem for when she is mated and becomes pregnant. I'm reluctant to go to the vets as they know nothing about guinea pigs (I know more than they do). To be fair, because she was given to me recently (almost a year old), I can't say for sure whether she arrived like it. Bad guinea mum I know Does anybody see any reason why breeding her could present a problem when bred, or anything I could do before we put her together (cream or something) that might work on sorting it out?

Is it badly swollen? It it isn't hurting her I don't know what to say. Is it hard or squishy? Do you think there might be pus or something in it? Like maybe a piece of hay stuck in her skin? Or something else like she got her toe stuck in something?

I really don't know. It feels hard, and it is a lil reddish/purple.
I've booked her into the vets cuz I don't wanna try and over the counter stuff incase I give her the wrong thing. I'll just have to see if the vets can prescribe something decent!!!

Best of luck! It's strange that it isn't hurting her. I hope you get on well. Let us know what happens!

Well the vet reckons she's got an infected nail bed. So it on a course of Baytril for 5 days. So we'll see.
Luckily the vet said it won't bother her when I put her for mating on Saturday.

I would make sure she is in tip top condition before you put her to the boar. It isn't worth risking her health if she is not in absolutely top condition. Having babies takes a lot out of the sow.

She is in top condition, just the toe is a little swallon. She's walking fine, its not hurting her or anything. I do think the Baytril has taken the redness out of it and I feel it looks smaller (but that could just be me and my wishful thinking).
