I recently got a new baby girl, shes now about three months old, Ive been noticing that shes been getting quite fat and just thought she was growing quickly then last night I noticed that her stomach was moving, I thought that very strange so I picked her up put her on my knee and had a feel and yes her stomach was moving, like something kicking, is she pregnant? is she too young? will she be fine? Im thinking shes about 9 weeks pregnant already. Im besides myself with worry, I dont know what to do, Ive never had a litter before but have kept piggies for 6 years now, this is all new to me What do I do, help!!!

This is an all too common accurance I am afraid Most piggies have no problems at all even when they are very young but saying that it is not idea given that she is so young. make sure she gets the best food and care try not to handle her too much and I am sure she will be fine. However if you see her go off her food or sit nunched up and miserable then this is when you should get her to see a vet asap

Since you have had piggies for so long, you should do just fine. You know when piggies aren't doing well and will notice if anything seems off.
Just give her plenty of food and hay then just watch her. When she is in labor you will see her hunch up and appear to push. That is when you want to just sit there and watch her. She will start pushing the babies out after that. Make sure she gets the sacs off the faces right away and that they start breathing since they will suffocate if they don't. I had to do this with two babies that were born here yesterday. Mom took care of the third one on her own.
I handle my piggies a lot and handle pregnant ones more often since I like to feel the babies moving and try to guess how many are in there and feel their pelvic bones to help guess when the babies will be here. I even take belly photos of them by placing them on my lap upside down. So far all my mommies have put up with me, LOL!
Good Luck and I know you will do just fine, ~Christy~

lol jcdscaviary your just like me then My mum always used to have a go at me for attempting to baby guess and feel them kick but I love doing it! Don't worry you should be just fine, Guinea Pig pregnancies are *normally* trouble free. But I am sure you will notice if anything is amis. One thing I would watch out for is prolapse, I lost a sow to this, it will be obvious if it happens but can be fatal, this is a rush to the vets job.

Im quite looking forward to it all now, it was just a big shock, Ive been reading up lots about it. I know what to look out for if shes feeling unwell. I cant believe Ive not noticed before now, all my pigs live inside, well I suppose I wasnt expecting it, Ive worked out shes prob due on the 22nd of this month! Shes lives with two other piggies, will I have to separate her or will she be ok left in with them, Im scared if I separate her the others wont except her back, oh deary me, its all new stuff to me

She should be OK with the other two, if she has lots of babies they will help her look after them. The only problem is that if she gets 'baby proud' then she may get aggressive. If she does this then just take the other sows out. I have never had a problem with having non-pregnant sows in with ones that have had babies. Actually one of my females used to love it as she could never have her own babies lol

Normally you can feel the babies movements when there is less than 2 weeks to birth.
What sex are the other pigs? She should not be with any boars now and until you want the sow pregnant again. Back to back pregnancies are really hard on the sow. She will go back in heat very soon after delivering.

As long as the other ones are sows then by all means leave them in with her. Like it was said they will help raise the babies. I usually like to do this as well since it gives mom some babysitters/teachers. They are social animals.
Baby movements, from my experience, can start from as early as 4 weeks til due date. With this latest mommy I wrote down when I could feel the babies and it was on Feb 20th, so almost 3 weeks til birth date. Due dates are really hard to get down, I'm still working on it. This time was pretty accurate as I had a due date of March 12th (today) and she had them yesterday.

She came to me pregnant but I didnt know, you dont really look out for any signs of pregnancy when you know it cant possibly happen with her cage mates.
At the moment shes in with my older sow and my nuetered boar, they all get on really well, will this be ok? I know that when she has the babies she will come into season soon after and my boar will know this, but there cant be any babies as hes been neutered will it be ok to keep them all together still?
Any help much appreciated.

I would be careful leaving the neutered boar in with her, not because he can get her pregnant again, but because he will still chase her although he has been fixed and I would worry that the babies may get hurt during the process.

Ok thanks for that, I will take him out to be on the safe side when she has her babies so they wont get hurt

We took Xander out when Hilda had her babies (he had also been neutered) because he was really harassing Hilda, trying to mount her, and Hilda was getting very agitated and stressed. So Xander got to go on a little holiday to a bachelor pad cage and Hilda got to settle into being a mammy with less stress
