i had thought my 5 year old had a simple burst absess that needed draining and simple antibiotics. unfortunately, it turned out he had a busted tumor that couldn't be treated so we had to put him down.
the vet, who is new/younger at our clinic, showed such compassion and empathy when telling us that having him put down was the best option. he even gave us some time to say goodbye to him before they took him to the back. we couldn't be there with him while he was being put to sleep. i don't think i could have taken watching him fall asleep right in front of me.
we had set ourselves up for the worst and we told him that, so it made his job easier to. i never would have been able to hold off the inevitable just so he was around us and suffering.
i'm actually going to call the vet, or shoot them an email, and commend the vet for helping us through the ordeal.
i have seen other vets either simply not care, or try to take more money from the owners and pretend that the situation is treatable.

Aw, I'm really sorry to hear your piggy didn't make it. That vet sounds great though, it sounds like he was very understanding. I'm sure he'd really appreciate your positive feedback

my wife had the idea of sending him a card thanking him, which i think it a good one. i'd like him to know that his hard work and compassionate attitude doesn't go unnoticed.
