Sorry for the long read but it's kind of complicated.
This started yesterday. I have (had) 2 pigs and both are males. Both are in separate enclosures.
So, yesterday, I come home from a 24 hour shift and notice that Paddington is laying in the bottom of his cage. He would not move or anything. So I pick him up and he is like a limp noodle and his breathing is labored. I called the pet store where I got him and they said to bring him in and they will take a look at him to see if they could figure it out. They said that maybe he had a bowel obstruction. So, I take him in and they say that he is really sick and they call a vet to tell them to see if they had suggestions on what to do (so if the pet store had the antibiotics, they could give them to me then). The vet wanted to see him so as I was getting ready to leave, he had a huge seizure and died.
I get home and my other pig is fine. I leave to take a test and come home 2 hours later and my pig is sick. So, I take him to the vet and they were really unsure as to what is wrong with him. They kept him overnight, gave him antibiotics and fluid. There really is no change with him. When I took him to the vet he was still running from me and stuff. By the time I got to the vet (20 minutes maybe) he was a noodle and couldn't stand.
Here is his symptoms: He sounds really raspy when he weeks, he can't stand and lays on his side (almost like he is dizzy), labored breathing, his eyes and nose are crusty (like it has been watering) and he is coughing. He almost sounds like he has fluid in his lungs or something...it's a raspy/gurgling sound when he tried to week.
As of now, I have 7 shots to give him of antibiotics. I give them to him 1 time a day for 7 days. He is just laying in his cage and wont eat or drink. I don't want him to die but I am almost expecting it....he is a very sick pig. I don't know what happened! One pig was sick and died and now the other is sick and it happened within a 3-4 hour period.
Is this like a flu or something? The vet has no idea what is wrong with him. I don't know if he got bad food or if h just got a virus. There is no way he could have gotten into anything. They are always held and played with. Any suggestions, advice or anything would help! My 5 year old is devastated because of the other ones passing and I really want to save Mr. Wiggles. Should I hold him and love him or leave him alone? I just don't want to make it worse.
Sorry for the long read!
